A pictorial essay if there ever was one.

Obama would have insisted that the priest at the pub remove his collar so as not to offend anyone.  He does at least have better taste in beer than Clinton.

That was hilarious. I nearly spewed the coffee when I saw Clinton's picture.

Thank you.

I like the Clinton picture the best.

Nothing says "man" like cracking open cheap, ice cold, domestic beer after a competitive sporting event.

So much for Obama's "Irish roots," no true Irishman could possible look so sombre with a pint of Guinness in his hand.

Ya'll are missing it.

Two things:

1. He's trying to look manly.

And:

2. He's feeling a little misty thinking about his old beer summit buddy, Henry O'Gates.

Maybe he prefers Murphys Stout.  He should have asked for an Irish Car Bomb - Guinness, Bailey's & Jameson.

Wow, maybe it's just an unfortunate moment for the shutter to snap, but I have seldom seen anyone look so uptight as Barak and Michelle. What gives?

Reagan looks to the manor born, reverent and completely at ease at the same time. Can't beat that.

Clinton, say what you will of him, is just a natural. No doubt he's having a ball just being Bill the pol.

Hear, hear!  He looks like a kid about to take a dose of castor oil.

Yeah, I think it's just the "unfortunate moment" thing, much as I'd like it to be otherwise. He's just taken the first gulp of brew (you can see by the glass), and is smacking his lips to remove the foam mustache.

This would be the unfortunate moment.

I never knew Bill Clinton was bisexual. ;)

Geez, could the Obamas look any less out of their comfort zone? And BTW, Michelle, even wine lovers, such as I, know better than to order a Chardonnay in an Irish pub.

Chris Matthews must keep that picture of Clinton and the buff, shirtless athlete in his sock drawer...

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio, a fellow of infinite
jest, of most excellent fancy. He hath bore me on his back a
thousand times, and now how abhorr'd in my imagination it is!
My gorge rises at it. :(  ... nah

Yes I had a Budweiser while caressing a shirtless man, but I didn't swallow.

What's evident is that both Reagan and Clinton are enjoying themselves in company. In contrast, Obama comes across as enduring this indignity.  "What's next?  Kissing red-headed babies and glad-handing nuns?"  To be fair, these are a few snapshots of a long eventful day:  but my experience of the Irish in this setting is "we're all equals here."  Relax, enjoy the craic, laugh, or sit quietly, it's an intensely social experience.  Coolness is not an asset here (unless you're Bono). Mr.Obama lacks the common touch, and going to Ireland to quaff Guinness (or Murphy's) only looks contrived.

However, I don't believe the Irish, or Irish-Americans, are foolish enough to buy this donkey and call it a racehorse.  They're naturally hospitable and courteous, but cynical, as well.  If we could only hear what this crowd will have to say about the First Couple after they've got their photo op.
