In Charlotte yesterday evening, former President Bill Clinton engrossed and thrilled the delegates to the Democratic National Convention, who responded to his 48-minute address with wave after wave of cheers and applause. And in the mainstream media this morning, Clinton received worshipful treatment.  "Mr. Clinton," the New York Times informed us, "delivered an impassioned plea on behalf of Mr. Obama’s re-election, the 42nd president nominating the 44th to a second term with a forceful and spirited argument that Democratic values would restore the promise of the middle class."

A few items from the 42nd president's resume:

  • Impeachment by the U.S. House of Representatives
  • The payment of a $90,000 fine for lying under oath in a federal court
  • The payment of $850,000 to settle an allegation of sexual harassment
  • The payment of a $25,000 fine and the suspension for five years of his license to practice law in Arkansas
  • Permanent expulsion from the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court

But Peter, surely you understand that for the Dems the points you list are features, not bugs.

Actually, this works just fine in our upside-down world.

One of my closest friends, for decades, whom has always known me as a conservative, became furious with me when I mentioned I had attended a Tea Party event.  This (still good) friend, whose half-black granchild I have often babysat, called me a (expletive deleted) racist.

When it comes to politics, some folks just believe what they are told by the media/culture.  Trust me, there is no changing their minds about such issues.  You just keep plugging away.

Peter, all through your discussion about President Clinton's speech on today's podcast, the phrase "unusually good liar" kept ringing in my ears.

Don't forget the arrogance, hubris, narcissism and credit taking for what Reagan did.

I also recall that potentially exposing his faults was bad for your health.  It certainly didn't foster any kindness from his cabal.

Bill Clinton's greatest positive accomplishments were welfare reform and balanced budgets; both of which Barack Obama has campaigned against!

Guy Benson gave the perfect critique of Clinton's speech on Hugh Hewitt's show a little while ago. He said, "Clinton was very effective for the time he was alloted." I guess it's good for us he had a bit of verbal diarrhea.

It is a topsy-turvey world. Obama is so bad that Clinton seems a palatable alternative to the lying, ineffectual pultroon that now occupies our Oval Office. We are indeed through the Looking Glass here Alice.

I swear some lefties think the 90s economic boom was solely a result of the top marginal tax rate being a few points higher under Clinton. Then Bush came along and lowered it a few points and then, suddenly (half a decade) later the economy collapsed. It was all the Bush tax cuts. I'm not sure how, but it was.

Alcee Hastings is so envious .

Perhaps a stint in Detroit municipal government could properly burnish his credentials .

Dead strippers , mayor in prison , mayor's wife in prison ...... forgot they don't have muni government in Detroit anymore .

The legacy that slithers through this party is impressive indeed .

Known by their heroes , this group circles the large statue of Baal , built with someone else's labor .  They'll crowd around the feast table , grabbing the cornucopia of someone else's labor . Truly they didn't build anything.

Harry Truman , Barbara Jordan are just ghosts of a long past glory .

Feels good and clean to be on the other side .

The memory hole on this man is so ridiculously deep.  I fear how he will be lionized in the history textbooks.  What am I talking about...I am already seeing it, and a new textbook being offered me is advertising that they have online sources with NINE of Obama's speeches available in it.

Looks like the Nobel Committee aren't the only ones who jumped the gun on immortalizing The Great Pretender.

I want to add:  I'll bet no more than 2% of our intrepid news media know/remember the items Peter cites above.  Of course, you get chapter and verse on Romney, Bush, Cheney, and on and on...

sickening.

Let us also add: thrice accused of rape, responsible for ordering a group of religious dissenters to be burned alive (a group which included women and children), taking a a six-year boy from his home at gun point and sending him to be used as the propaganda puppet of a totalitarian police state for the rest of his life, politically exploiting the Oklahoma City Bombing and vetoing the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act. It's always good to remind people of Bill Clinton's real accomplishments.

If Barack Obama had the 1992 economy to campaign on, he'd be cruising to reelection.  Yet somehow Bill Clinton managed to turn George Bush into Herbert Hoover.   What a pol.

Well, long before that it was necessary for  FDR to turn Herbert Hoover the reality into Herbert Hoover the caricature by running  the most viciously dishonest presidential campaign before the Johnson's campaign against Goldwater. Most of the first-phase New Deal simply built on initiatives Hoover had started.

And am I the only one who's having trouble with the interface tonight? The post above just tried to reject an edit before being published and the page took much longer to load when I came here.
