Best. App. Ever.
I'm finding the aphorism, "a picture is worth a thousand words," hitting the mark for a smart phone app I discovered over the weekend. The Obama Clock displays a countdown until Change I Can Believe In while simultaneously providing an up-to-the-minute economic report card for our transformational president. Unemployment, gas prices, housing values, the national debt and the presidential approval rating are all detailed, with a touch expanding each metric into a graph dated from the magical inauguration of 2009.
The Obama Clock has compressed to mere seconds the time needed to communicate my economic angst to friends and family. And the presentation is subversive: who can resist, "Hey, check out my cool new app"?
The countdown clock provides the daily reassurance that helps me keep hope alive. And in this Advent season shouldn't we fan the flames of hope wherever they stir?
I recommend this for your digital stocking. The basic version is free, while access to all the metrics will set you back an affordable $1.99. Consider a personal bundle combining an invaluable paid Ricochet subscription with the Obama Clock.

Re: Best. App. Ever.
At least Obama is trying to identify with unemployed. Several days a month he pretends he has no job, and just wanders up and down a grassy field to get some exercise and kill time. He spends the day contemplating the traps and rougher areas of life, and how to avoid them...for us.
Re: Best. App. Ever.
Is he ever. Just take a gander at the President's daily schedule. Today, Obama has a daily briefing at 10:15 AM and then meets with senior advisors at 10:45AM. That's it. The sum total of his tireless I-will-not-sleep labor to turn this mess around, create the Green Unicorn Jobs of the Future, or whatever.
And in surveying the archives, today's schedule is fairly typical. President Obama is voting "present" with his time, or keeping most of his real work off the official books. Most days don't start until 9:30 or 10:00 AM and include only a couple of events.
And he needs a Hawaiian vacation from this?

Re: Best. App. Ever.
I downloaded this. The thrill lasted about a day. I think the problem is that the graphic is kind of lame. I have a rotating series of graphics on my desktop--SCOAMF, FAIL, Epic Fail, OMG--that's what this app needs to be spectacular.

Re: Best. App. Ever.
I'm repeatedly made uncomfortable by the tactic of using low housing prices as a metric against Obama. A) Low house prices are a very good thing if you're in the market to buy a home. I bought my condo before prices boarded the rocketship, and I'm damned happy I did. B) Prior to 2008, the housing market was in an irrational, artificial, government-instigated bubble. Lots of people predicted a collapse (including Canuckistani finance minister Jim Flaherty in his very first budget speech, back in 2005). The bubble was so freakin' huge, I'm kinda happy that the correction has so far been sustained. Do people REALLY want housing prices back to pre-collapse levels?!?! That'd indicate a renewed bubble!!!

Housing prices are great for home buyers, unless you took advantage of low prices and artificially low interest rates and are now expected to pay increased fees for your Freddie or Fannie held mortgage in order to pay for the two-month payroll tax reduction extension. Then, you might be justified in being a little peeved.
If Republicans had any PR campaign abilities whatsoever, they'd put the President's daily schedule out there with the footage of his promise to work tirelessly on the economy.
