These "retain America" community ideas are popping up everywhere. Yesterday, I read about The Citadel Community, an update on a medieval walled city, which intends to begin construction later this year, they hope in northern Idaho. Bill Whittle (PJTV, Stratosphere Lounge on Ustream) hopes to build a city devoted to American ingenuity and entrepreneurship embodied by the early space program.
As many Americans see the founding principles disintegrating, ridiculed and actively attacked, many are stating their intentions to gather together like-minded communities.
Internationalist liberals are already doing this with something called cohousing - which works about as well in practice-vs-theory as most of their ideas.
I don't think I'd be willing to go with delusional. Certainly - in all these cases - visionary. Complex, hurdle-prone, ideal-crashing-against-reality?- yea, mostly. But any of the above ideas beat out the lib-drenched NC Triangle area (which, btw, already has tons of cohousing).

I have considered going Galt recently. If things continue to go the way they do, that may be my ultimate fate. However...
...Beck has been going bat-expletive-crazy for a while now. This is like the cult of Beck meets Epcot Center.

Beck is now so self-serious that he's becoming a self-parody. Painful to watch.
Back in his "I'm just a rodeo clown" days, he was fun and informative -- and here and there some of that sane good humor remains on his radio show. But the TV Beck persona is bordering on paranoid-loon territory and hurting his own cause.

Beck is a buffoon.
The idea of walling yourself off is stupid and ultimately unproductive. What kind of job would people get in this Beckistan? If it did become successful and started growing how would you maintain control? How does this not end up like Lord of the Flies? I get the idea of moving out of the city and retiring in some out of the way place and not paying attention to politics, but why try for remaking Wako?
Going Galt is stupid, one might as well just say I am going to become poor and useless. It is the rights version of the free love organic farm hippy commune. If you want to get away from the world join a monastery.

Seriously, it would be helpful to consolidate in already-conservative states. I understand loving one's home territory. But it's a bit like not being able to find work and refusing to relocate to where the jobs are.
Networking across state lines, as we are doing on Ricochet, is also helpful. Allies and resources are important.
I agree with the basic concept that conservatives and liberals are incapable of maintaining a just and fruitful government together. We can laugh together, but we can't live together. Willing migrations would be ideal.

Man, I must be dense. I find a great deal informative in Mr. Beck. His financial predictions, for instance - today Germany is recalling all of their physical gold from France and the United States "like we told you 5 or 6 years ago" said Beck, in explaining where he thinks the economy is headed. When he talks American history, he'll call in David Barton, who has the largest collection of Americana outside the Smithsonian.
Beck also always says "Don't take my word for it. Here's where I'm getting my information. Check it out for yourself."

Exactly. He cites Walt Disney idea of imagining what is beyond the known. He said Disney was a bad man in many ways, but his imagining outside the box is worthy of being explored.
Hardly bat-guano-crazy territory.

What keeps me engaged in the fight are my children. They do not deserve the crappy world the Left is making for them. Therefore, I will never stop fighting for their sakes. However, that does not preclude setting up an excape hatch for use if it becomes necessary.

I think we need to dye everything east of CA/OR/WA and west of the Mississippi so deep red that it basically functions as its own free enterprise zone.... I'd love to go Galt, and may just do it once I've got the last of the student debt cleared....

What would the Deep Red states be? In addition to the mountain West and Plains states, it seems that there are a lot in the southeast (the Carolinas, GA, KY, TN, MI, AL, southern VA). In the Midwest, IN looks very promising, as does downstate IL. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that NH is still a beacon in the northeast.

I've personally talked to NH progressives who are hoping to overrun conservatives there. There is a large Boston ex-pat community doing a viral spread there.

If we all congregate in the Deep Red states, we will be abandoning other states to become Blue by default. That's not a good strategy for political viability nationally, and would lead to a potential for political violence. It would lead to greater division, and more talking past each other, than fighting it out in a war of ideas.

It's an unachievable ideal, honestly. Like locusts, liberals are already swarming to the states they haven't ruined yet... including Texas.
There's no avoiding the storm that is coming. Loyalties will sort themselves out when the storm hits, as they did during the war of 1861.

Aaron's right. They're locusts, and they're swarming all over North Carolina. We're fighting for our lives down here. We made it through the last election and we now have a Republican governor, but I don't know how long it will hold. We've lost Charlotte (where I live, and where I'm surrounded by liberals), and we've lost the Triangle area. Of course, Duke, NC State, and UNC Chapel Hill are lost too.

Barely a start, Denise. Liberal Public Policy Polling started as a class project at Elon. Mike Adams blogs about liberal insanity at UNC Wilmington. A fellow Ricochetti has described to me the miniscule presence of conservatives at East Carolina in Greenville.
It would be easier to describe where the locust aren't dominant.
