Say what you will, but I like a proactive approach. Of course, I saw this from my booth by the window in a Dairy Queen, so I feel much better now.

Shouldn't that be "RUN IN CLINIC?"

I dunno. Someone may not interpret that right, and drive into the joint... "Well, the sign said run into it!"

If they want to attract people to a clinic, they should share a building with waffle house.

Here, here, two cheers for Waffle House!

When you are travelling on business and you check into your hotel at two in the morning hungry, where are you going to get a meal? Waffle House! Try the patty melt, friend, and admire the myriad of ways they have of making something as wonderful as hash browns even more better. Um, um!

Here's something you'll never hear in a waffle house, "hey guys good job cleaning up!"

You should see some of the truck stops.

Actually Dave, my father-in-law who does a good amount of hauling said that if out on a long ride, you could actually count on some truck stops to be the cleanest places to shower and get a cup of coffee etc. Makes no sense to me but have you experienced this at all, and how do you spot the good ones from the ones where your feet stick to the floor? Also, which fast food restaurant has the best coffee out there? My wife and I vote Wendy's actually. This past summer we got to ride from northern Illinois down to North Carolina. McDou has some decent coffee, and 50% cheaper than Starbucks.

I do enjoy a good WH trip every now and again. I don't remember if I made this up or if I'm plagiarizing someone smarter than me ... but they should really re-name the Mason-Dixon line the "I HOP-Waffle House" line.

Once Obamacare goes fully into effect, that sign will take on a whole new meaning.

Receptionist: "Doctor! This patient suffered a concussion and can't remember her name."

Doctor: "Well guys, what do you say we figure this one out over some pancakes? All you can eat!"

A Huddle House opened near me this past year. I just assumed it had something to do with either waffles or strippers.

I live pretty far south of the Mason-Dixon, and we have both here. We're just ecumenical that way.

Maybe it should be called the "Piggly Wiggly Line". :)

Samwise, my rule of thumb for finding a clean place is pretty straightforward. I look for the newest truck stops, since they haven't been around long enough to get trashed. As for the chain truck stops, Pilot and Loves are usually the cleanest, but for some reason they have the coldest showers. It's sort of like showering in a beer cooler. Maybe it slows the growth of mold.

Best coffee without doubt (outside of Louisiana) is Pilot, and Flying-J (now that Pilot has bought them out).

My favorites are the Iowa 80, in Iowa naturally. It's the world's largest truck stop, and has over 800 parking places (Disneyworld for truckers). There's a mom and pop one in Cape Girardeau, MO, Rush's home town, that is nice, clean, and friendly. My all time favorite is Frog City truck stop, in Louisiana, on I-10, exit 87. Wonderful people, the gumbo is kickin', and the coffee is pure heaven.

I hadn't heard of the new name for the Mason-Dixon Line. I always thought it was called I-20 anyway,...right through Shreveport. Anything north of that,...well,...you get it.

Dave, you were up in my neck of the woods the other day. Because if it's Smuckers.... it's gotta make my kids hands sticky.

Gotta let me know the next time you're playing Amish Dodgeball on Rt. 30. "BUGGY!"

Dave Carter

EJHill, you in the Orrville area? I seem to get sent to Ohio pretty frequently, though this was my first time in Orrville. If only I had known.

I'm in the Memphis area tonight, about to do an all-nighter on the road. I have to head into the Ozarks to pick up another load and then start making my way to Wisconsin. I think I'll shut down in Rush's hometown later today and get back to working "day shift" after tonight's 3AM pick up appointment in the wilds of Arkansas.

The Amish country-side is beautiful, by the way. I always worry my rig will scare the horses.

I have generally the same criteria when driving around the deep South visiting family.

Also, though it may be a local thing, the Pilot stations tend to have 24 hour Arby's, which I personally rank as the top of the fast food hierarchy (second only to Five Guy's, depending on your definition of "fast").

Dave Carter: EJHill, you in the Orrville area? I

Using the words "Orrville" and "area" are generous. Ain't much area there. I'm about 20-25 minutes from there.

Orrville's 2nd most famous resident is the guy who voices "You've got mail!" for AOL. Old radio and TV guy that I've known for years. A couple of years ago he showed up at his station's Halloween party with a mail box on his head. Every time someone open it he said...
