At Least Stephen Colbert isn't a Wiccan

Say what you will about the Democrats, they never ever break ranks. While Republicans continue the fratricide over Christine O'Donnell's questionable taste in high school dates, Nancy Pelosi just loves Stephen Colbert's appearance--in character--before the House Judiciary subcommittee on immigration.
“Of course I think it’s appropriate. He's an American, right? He came before the committee. He has a point of view. He can bring attention to an important issue like immigration. I think it's great.”
Methinks the majority party is a wee bit unconnected from the concerns of the average voter.

The best part is the part just before that. Before Colbert can testify, Conyers asks him to leave so the committee can really get some work done (cough). Colbert points out that he'd be happy to, but the only he's there in the first place because one of the committee members asked him to be, then they have to figure out what to do and so let someone else testify while they decide whether he should testify or not.
Inviting a comedian (even a very funny one like Colbert) to testify is lame enough -- how do they think this could possibly turn out? The committee members arguing over whether he should be there at all after he already is just makes them look ridiculous.

Just when you think Congress has scraped the bottom of the clueless hack barrel, they break through and find a new bottom.

Thanks for the link, I.raptus. Zoe Lofgren (D-California) does something amazing in the clip--she makes John Conyers (D-Michigan) look like a statesman by comparison. I suppose that's a public service of sorts.
The only fair read of Chairman Lofgren featuring Colbert is that she is displaying her contempt for those who believe illegal immigration is a serious public policy issue. Presumably, this includes the 66 percent of voters concerned that illegal immigrants collectively place a major strain on the U.S. budget.
Is it November yet?

Bring in a clown to address a serious issue. Hats off to the clowns in the Democratic party for the unforced error. Laugh now while you can; November approaches.

Bread and circuses !
Let's see about Halloween outfits ...what do you say to Goths,Visigoths, Vandals, Franks (no -not him!), and the rest. Sorry, no Celts ( tea party racism raises it ugly head).
These democrats have truly lost it. Wonder what Nancy is thinking as she puts the 757 into gear and makes it back to SF in time for cocktails at Villa Taverna ?
I guess the rest of us have some work to do, harvest moon meant no quilting last night and the teal are in season. So start canning and shooting at the fast wings, cling to those bibles, mason jars, and 20 gauges.
They have been defiling the halls of Congress too long. It's time for the tricks.

That was awkward and incongruous. Man, I am sure Colbert misses the days when you could make an easy living just mocking Bush/Cheney every day. That was so out of place, I was embarrassed for him.

Great. Just before I heard about the time Congress made available to hear Colbert's testimony, I read a Wall Street Journal piece called "Congress Punts on Taxes." http://bit.ly/cE5gQd "With time running out to plan for 2011, the delay raises uncertainty for small businesses and individual taxpayers over their future liabilities."

There is no fratricide involved in this election cycle. The tension is between reformists and the incumbent class, a far more violent distinction than Republican vs. Democrat. The GOP gets to host the reformists by virtue of being the weaker of the two major parties. The incumbents are closing ranks against the barbarians at the gates, regardless of party. Fraud, waste, and corruption are the bi-partisan pillars of the Republic, and their enemies must be defeated at any price.
The encouraging part is the witless thrashing of the incumbents in traps of their own make.

Classic George Gobel moment on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show:
"Did you ever feel like a pair of brown shoes and everyone else is a Tuxedo"
Stephen Colbert, brown shoe.
