First, there was immigration, then Tucson--and you know what else? "As we celebrate Dr. King's day, there's still this very strange state, Arizona, that does not recognize it. I mean, maybe is there a time for a shift here? Should they secede from the nation? With all that's going on, it's just almost bizarre at this point."

What, secede from the Union and restore their right to protected borders? They would just tear down those lovely federal road signs warning passing tourists not to slow down or stop in gangster-ridden Arizona, and actually deal with the gangsters.

And who paid for those grotesque tee-shirts?

Growing up in AZ, I remember those MLK Day issues.  AZ original middle finger was delivered to the NFL when it said no thanks to the Super Bowl and wouldn't be pressured into voting by popular referendum MLK Day into law.  Governor Mecham had previously canceled the holiday because it had been decreed by executive order.  The folks eventually passed it.  Arizona, which I believe is one of the only, if not only, to have established it by a direct vote of the people.

Why, oh why, do so many of the American Left simply not understand how American federalism works?  There is no need for all the States to be the same.  The diversity of the States is one of the USA's greatest advantages!

Don't like how things are done in Arizona? You can move to Massachusetts.

Don't like how things are done in South Dakota? You can move to North Dakota.

Etc, etc, etc...

It drives me crazy.

Whenever one of my fellow Soviet Canuckistanis complains about "Americans" I always have to ask him/her, "which Americans do you mean?  Texans? Californians? Carolinans? Rhode Islanders? Etc?

I mean, the country has 50 different criminal codes, for cryin' out loud!  How more diverse can you possibly get?!?!

If the folks in Arizona seceded and announced it was going to govern itself by the original precepts of the US Constitution their borders would be bulging with new American immigrants.

MSNBC has already seceded from rational discourse so naturally they would say these things.

Gaby Giffords was elected by Arizonans, by the way. Ever consider that, Donny?

You know what is bizarre? Al Sharpton being treated as though he has a good reputation along these lines. That is what is bizarre.

Only with a media as thoroughly corrupt as ours could an Al Sharpton be regarded as a  authority on anything but how to start a race riot with lethal consequences.

So now Arizona's failure to "officially" recognize MLK day (Lance says otherwise, I see) promotes "gun violence" (another suspect term)?  Quite a stretch, Al.

BTW, did Sharpton pronounce "secede" suk-seed, or am I mistaken?

What really gets me is that they don't observe Daylight Savings Time.

No amount of gun control would stop these guys from shooting of their mouths.

Diane Ellis, Ed.

Wow, Al Sharpton looks perfectly reasonable for a change, while Donny Deutsch seizes the laurels for being the biggest nutjob of the day.  Who says things like that?

If at first you don't secede, try try again.

Pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes (ARS) Section 1-301, the State has 10 paid holidays, one of which is MLK day.  It was passed back in 1992.  And, like I said, I believe the only state to do so by popular vote.  How many states, if putting it to a vote back then, would have approved it so?

We lived in Tucson from 2007 from 2009. One of the delights of that location was NO DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME.
