The title refers to the upcoming debates of course, but The Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin and The Daily Caller's Mickey Kaus also discuss both of the campaigns pluses and minuses, the way the crisis in the Middle East has been played by both Romney and Obama, and last year's budget negotiations in light of the new information published in Bob Woodward's book (also Jenn's Audible pick of the week). Plus Mickey tells Mitt to chillax -- he doesn't need a home run, and our pundits debate on whether or not the mainstream media is protecting Obama. Breaking: Mickey is not a fan of Paul Ryan, and Jenn has a scoop!

This podcast should be Mitt's Walter Cronkite moment. If he's lost Jen Rubin, he's lost everyone. Time to wake up Mitt and Mr. Ryan.

Thanks for the heads up Mitch. I'm sick of hearing people complaining about Mitt Romney. I'll save myself the aggravation and skip the podcast

Her issues are with the campaign, not the candidate. But give it a listen and judge for yourself.

Who knows, she may even be right.  But she is so absolutely sure that she is right that I had to stop the podcast.  I mean, really, she says something to the effect that if only the Romney campaign would listen to her, the Democrats would have something to worry about, but as it is, they don't.  Wow. I'm glad there's someone in the world who knows exactly, precisely how to win an election.

Yeah...ok.

Retail sales would lose a lot of revenue if Christmas was moved to November 25th.

Obama is getting fired. There is little value to stating that certainty.

Is there anyone inside or outside the Romney campaign who could take over for Stuart Stevens at this late date?  Someone who is more competent at selling conservative ideas because he/she actually has a degree of belief in those ideas?  Someone who never worked for Charlie Crist?

For the week after Ryan was picked, the Romney campaign had energy and substance.  Maybe Stevens had not had a chance to incorporate Ryan into his ultra-cautious game plan.

Stevens might be the best strategist out there, I don't know.  But I can just see him working for a liberal TV network if Romney does not win, arguing that Republicans must abandon the conservative ideas that he never really tried to sell.

It is the same exact story with every inside-beltway commentator.

1) Gillespie, Stevens, Romney, et al are idiots because they won't listen to me and just do as I say.

2) What we really need is for them to jump up and bluntly confront Obama/MSM/lazy swing voters/pollsters/etc. the way Newt did in the debates (these same people told us that Romney would lose the nomination for the exact same reasons- not listening to these insider experts)

Bill Kristol has run his own campaign against Boston for over a year.  The prescription is always the same- go big and bold on foreign policy, surge Afghanistan again, apologize for RomneyCare and double down against ObamaCare, add in a healthy dose of social issues.

"The election is yours for the taking, if only you would listen to brilliant meeee!"

We may lose.  Boston may be wrong, too timid, too bland and data-driven, lacking the bold leadership needed to show Obama up for what he is, a thin-skinned socialist who loves humanity and doesn't much like people.  It may well be that the majority of voters are France/Greece, and want to sleep through it on hoped-for borrowed government benefits.  If that is the case, no Romney campaign tactics will dent them.

But I guarantee that Boston knows every issue, every conservative opinion, every poll result, every piece of advice being offered.  If they don't listen to Kristol or Jen, it is because they know more, or simply believe that the advice is not correct, or believe that it is not yet time to bring out and fire those particular guns.
