Another Way to Pick a Candidate: Who Would Do This?

As noted elsewhere -- and by "noted" I mean the whole gamut of reactions -- I'm casting my vote for Mitt Romney.
Should it come to that. Rarely, of course, do Republican voters in California matter at all.
But perhaps another way to pick one of the four candidates currently running on our side is to ask, Which one of them would do this?

I'd do it.

I could see Newt doing this, and to a lesser extent, and Santorum. I couldn't see Romney doing it. One of his unspoken arguments about himself is his, for lack of a better word, ruthless willingness to fire people when necessary. But Mitt Romney did not govern the way he ran Bain Capital (and you often can't run the government the way you run a business... two different animals). But his tenure as Governor makes me doubt he'd do something like the PATCO firings.

So, it is Politically Incorrect to discuss coffee and Mitt Romney. Are there any other food groups that are in violation of Romney's sensibilities.

I really don't think he's taking a stab at his religion here as much as he's simply pointing out a facet of it. Kind of liking joking to a Jew "Hey, at least I get to eat bacon". If there's no meanness meant, then laugh. I certainly didn't detect any ill intent from the author.

James Of England
Specifically, here, musing on Coolidge's performance as Governor of Massachusetts. I don't want to name any names here, but I'm guessing that one candidate is probably more aware than others of the history of that office.
[T]he chief business of the American people is business. They are profoundly concerned with buying, selling, investing and prospering in the world.
The same candidate often talks a little like that, too. · 6 hours ago
I've never gotten the sense that Romney knows much history. To his credit, he does not pretend to know history (unlike our president), but I am not sure there is any reason to think he knows any more about Coolidge than the other candidates. In fact, when I first read your post, I thought you meant Gingrich, who has read a fair amount of history (as he reminds us just a little too often for my taste).

Actually, I think it's more like saying, "You know, I would respect Sen. Lieberman a lot more if would just eat some bacon once in awhile."

Come on, everyone. Let's lighten up.

If by "this" you mean stand on principle, then the answer is Rick Santorum. · 11 hours ago
Because he was so principled in every budget he voted for that supported Planned Parenthood. Santorum admitted to the public that taking one for the team was more important that his principles.
Newt would do it, no question about it, particularly if he had a bad experience on Air Force One.
Paul - I like the comment about firing the lot of government agencies that have no constitutional support but "regulate" air travel. but then again, he's not for bombing military incompetent nations thousands of miles away from the US or for fighting wars against recreational drugs that most people try at some point in time (note: I've never tried any narcotics of any sort, and think it's stupid - just clarifying).
Okay, back to the Santorum/Romney love fest.

Leporello, if you read any long form account of Romney, you'll get a hint of his love of history, but it is true that the full flavor only comes through if you talk to people who know him. Most serious Mormons are pretty into their US history.I can't see Mitt being paid as much for his historical knowledge as Newt, though. Sorry for iPhone formatting.

Re: Another Way to Pick a Candidate: Who Would Do This?
I have a theory about Newt. I think every so often he rolls a six sided die (1d6) in his head.
Here's the results chart:
1-4: Do something bland.
5: Propose some really wonkish sounding idea.
6: Do something wild.
Now, don't get wrong, wild can be fun. But wild could mean firing all the ATCs, which would be fun. It could also mean bombing NK ballistic missiles on the launching pad, which would be unfun.
Edit: I expanded this into its own thread.
