Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
I was in Thousand Oaks, Calif., today, which is about 40 miles and a universe away from downtown Los Angeles. While driving along Thousand Oaks Blvd., my eye was drawn to what I found to be a half-dozen or so people protesting on the sidewalk outside the new Chick-fil-A franchise that opened just this past week. The protesters of course bore signs and handed out flyers indicating their displeasure with the traditional marriage views held by the corporate management of Chick-fil-A (and by a good many people in Thousand Oaks, apparently). One woman carried a sign that read, “I love women more than chicken,” a preference in which the typical passing male would have found little reason for disappointment.
And how disappointed the protesters must have been, for while the occasional motorist signaled solidarity with the cause by a toot of the horn, the restaurant itself was doing a roaring trade, with long queues at the walk-up and drive-through lines. And as it was lunch time, I stopped in myself for a sandwich and a lemonade, both of which, I’m happy to report, were excellent.

Re: Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
I live in Georgia. Chick-fil-As are almost as common as McDonalds. I happen to like the original chicken sandwich, and I'll try the lemonade instead of a Coke.
I like Chick-fil-A better than I like liberal protesters. According to your dispatch, so did most of the people you saw who came for the food, not goofy chit chat.

I'm told that liberal protesters taste a lot like chicken.

Re: Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
Jack, I'm tempted. Do you suppose we should attempt a Ricochet meet-up at a Chic-fil-A somewhere or other?

Peach shakes , great people , and respect for God and country .
To paraphrase Yakov Smirnoff , " what a great company ! "
The liberals need their own national chain restaurant to coalesce around . What might be appropriate ? Since they like to bitch and whine , I think I found the perfect one for them.

if it is in Thousand Oaks, I probably won't be able to be there. Distance is a factor for me, however thanks for the consideration.

Re: Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
On Friday I worked a half-day, went for Chick-fil-A for lunch, then took in 2016, and then went home and barbecued steaks for my nuclear family. I must be a racist homophobe....

No wonder the Leftists are protesting.

Why isn't the monthly Ricochet membership fee pegged to the price of a Chik-fil-a sandwich?

Re: Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
Peter,
Silicon Valley has been without a Chick-fil-A...
...until last week when they opened up a new restaurant at the tip of San Jose, 2 blocks south of the 1st Street exit on 237.
On opening day there were a small number of protesters, perhaps 8, with very large signs made from king size sheets strung between poles (so the protest appeared larger than it actually was). But there were also an awful lot of customers lined up, out the door, outside the building, down the length of the building, and wrapping around.
Since then I've been back twice for lunch (!!!) and it's been roughly the same size crowd.
I've got to hand it to them, they can really handle the logistics of going from zero to a large crowd in a manner of minutes. And the chicken sandwiches are pretty tasty.
To consider this for a Ric-o-Chet gathering, we'd have to ask them when their least popular time slot is.

Kids and I enjoyed a tasty lunch at our local protester free Chick-fil-A here in Chas WV too. Tasty and fine!

Re: Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
It cracks me up that this national protest improved Chick-fil-A's business. A few people I know had never tried Chick-fil-A until this silly controversy. That's a long-term jump in sales.

I never eat at fast-food restaurants outside of road-trips, but because I believe one should stand up for targets of intimidation I took a friend to the nearest town with a Chik-fil-A, forty miles. We felt as if we had uncovered a well kept secret. Absolutely everything about it was so pleasant. And though nothing was said, we felt as if we were among friends. The food was rather good too. Chik-fil-A now has two new customers.

Hey Adolph, how did that hate taste? That is, if you could taste anything through the smell of cross-kerosene on your hood.

The original logo Sambo's was scrubbed long ago and it was a kid from India, not a black child.
There had been a famous chicken place in Portland up to the late 40's featuring a large black face billboard that one entered through.
One has grown weary of these self interest tantrum throwing groups.

Re: Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
Think about it: All these groups demonstrating at Chik-fil-A restaurants are protesting not any action by the company, or any actual instance of discrimination, but rather the CEO's exercising his right of free speech, saying something with which the protesters disagree. Why don't they simply resolve never to patronize the restaurant, instead of engaging in this juvenile protest behavior?

Re: Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
Because religion is the strongest bulwark against technocratic statism. Statists cannot abide the fact that there are millions of people who believe in an authority higher than the intellectual elite. This is the reason why in every dictatorship in history, freedom of religion is the first thing to go. Without fail central planners either forbid or co-opt religion because their attempts to coordinate society cannot survive if the average person is allowed to question the morality of their designs.

Re: Another Dispatch from the Chicken War
My wife and I had a wonderful Chick Fil A sandwich at the new San Jose location last Saturday. It was part of our conservative trifecta for that day.
We went to Dinesh D'Dousa's movie, 2016, then Chick-Fil-A and completed the day at a Silicon Valley Republican gathering where we heard from several conservative state and federal candidates that would value our support. We contributed to Candidate Elisabeth Emken (running for US Senate) as well as Mark Meuser and George Yang as candidates for CA senate and assembly.
