Macaques

An inquisitive macaque monkey in Indonesia found award-winning photographer David Slater's camera equipment unattended and noticed its reflection in the camera lens then found the button to snap his own photo. Slater is taking credit for the hundreds of photos the macaque took of itself on his camera but we know who the real photographer was. The full story is here.

I just posted this because I just love that winning smile and thought it might bring a smile to everyone here on Ricochet.

Mr. Slater may be taking credit but some are saying they're in the public domain.

The monkey would be nothing without autofocus.

I'm tired of people mocking those who work at the US Treasury under Tim Geithner.

As pointed out above, this has raised a great question about who owns the copyright to the images the monkey took.  It sounds like a law school exam question.  I can't wait to hear Epstein and Yoo weigh in on this.

Well, it looks like George Allen is back in the race.

You know, that monkey reminds me of someone. Someone from an earlier generation. I just can't quite think of who. Think, think, think. Who could it be? Can someone help me out here?

"Self-photographing monkeys, gentlemen.  Wave of the future.  Gonna make a million."

(Imagine it spoken in the voice of Cave Johnson, if you've played Portal 2.)
