An Oily Reception for President Obama in Downtown San Francisco

I arrived in downtown San Francisco this afternoon to join a friend on the rooftop of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art to do work (they have coffee and wi-fi), but found myself caught in a protest en route. Turns out President Obama is in town for a fundraiser. And the angry protesters --who are protesting lots of stuff on this fine Tuesday, but mostly the Keystone oil pipeline --are here with some stern words for the President.

I have to say what first leapt to my mind was to notice the protesters are all fully clothed, no doubt out of deference to his majesty. Nonetheless I applaud their restraint in light of the jack booted thugs of the SF Board of Supervisors oppressing the good citizens of crazy town. For SF that demonstration appears positively dull Ms. Ellis.

I couldn't capture a good photo of it, unfortunately. If I had to estimate, I'd have guessed about 400 demonstrators were present. Everyone was relatively calm, but when the President's motorcade showed up, I could hear the chanting from a few blocks away.

I imagine he's thrilled. It's as close as he'll come to a Sister Souljah moment...and they will vote for him again...if they even vote. They will ALWAYS vote D to keep the eeeevil Republican fascists out.

I cannot imagine a fair election where any candidate who comes closer to embodying the liberal theology of SF has the remotest possibility of even being considered for high office and here one has attained the Presidency and yet they are still furious with him. There is something rather adolescent in that display.
When he is ejected from office having so failed to fulfill the messiah-like expectations he so assiduously cultivated I can't help but wonder how he will be seen in retrospect by his supporters.

Diane, I feel your pain, or I certainly will tomorrow. The Benevolent One will be visiting my campus in order to deliver a worn out campaign speech at a hastily organized event, about a bill even his own party doesn't support. I should be happier the Prez is on the defense, but I'm still a bit tweaked that I won't be able to find a parking spot within a mile of my classroom tomorrow.
Obama's timing is perfect, he's going to land in the middle of Denver's first major snow storm of the year. Only in Colorado, can you set a record high temp (80 degrees) and get 10" of snow in 48 hours.
However, the president may be worried about the mix of bad weather and his fiscal success. Especially if we all get snowed in. As it turns out, most of his most passionate supporters are also big fans of the slogan, "Eat the rich."
Do they really mean it??....we'll find out tomorrow.

Blame recalcitrant San Franciscans on the drugs, and the fog, Mr President.
Like Pope Leo III, the liberal Pope of Progressives - President Obama, is now attacked whilst on procession. Unlike Leo, there will be no Charlemagne to save him, and no sainthood at the end of it all.
