Meet Up Anyone?

"From quiet homes and first beginning, out to the undiscovered ends, there's nothing worth the wear of winning, but laughter and the love of friends." Hilaire Belloc

And with the immortal words of the immortal Belloc in mind, I wonder if I might invite any of you in the Carlisle, Pennsylvania area (or within reasonable driving distance), to a hastily arranged Meet Up? My chariot is back in the body shop while they restore her to showroom splendor in preparation for my first NASCAR appearance in a few weeks. I'll let you know more about the details as I learn them, but I'll evidently be taking a lap at a major race in the Ride of Pride. But first, we've got to replace that section that Bambi tore up, which gives me a little down time.

It's not often that I'm able to stay in one place long enough to arrange anything like this, so I want to take full advantage of it. How does Friday sound? Early evening or late afternoon? I'm within walking distance of a Chili's here in Carlisle, though if anyone knows of a better place, I'm certainly open to that. Think of it as a summit of joyful noise, or a conclave of laughter and friends, with your amicable over the road truck driver here as host. Whadaya think?

I wish Indianapolis were a little closer to Carlisle.

PS, if you're ever this way, I'll treat you to some decent Cajun food at Yats. It might make you feel like you're home.

If my Jeep weren't in the shop, I'd be sore tempted to make the drive up.

I'm 5-6 hours away.  Could do it tomorrow, but not Friday.  Maybe next time...

What?! On the "west shore" (as we locals used to say)? Not fair. I grew up in Hershey and would definitely swing by if I was visiting the folks.

Walk up the road into town and hit the Market Cross Pub, on the square.

I am an hour away in Lancaster, PA, so I may be able to join you. Evening is best. It would be an honor to meet you. I have no preference for meeting place, having never stopped in Carlisle.

I'm a little farther off than Wordcooper.  That "wintry mix" forecast for Friday is a bit daunting.

Dave Carter

Wordcooper,...sounds wonderful!  Chili's is about the best thing within walking distance of me, although there's a Cracker Barrel nearby too.  I'm on foot, so my knowledge of the area is limited to what I can see from the hotel.

Katievs and everyone else:  I may be here Saturday as well,...so if that makes things easier, I'm open to looking at that day as well.  My schedule is as open as Nancy Pelosi's head, so the consensus works for me.

Sorry, I moved some work stuff into Friday meetings...can't play hooky now.

Ever make the run up I-91 between New Haven, CT , Springfield, MA, and points north (84 in CT works too)?  Let me know when/if...

There's a large truck stop in Willington, I think, on I-84 that I frequent when I'm in the area.  I'll let you know next time I'm there!

Yup, know the TA you're talking about.  Love to front you a Dunkin' and help you decompress after running 84 through Hartford.

I regret that I am about 4000 miles away--just a stone's throw away from the birthplace of Hilaire Belloc in point of fact (if you have a good arm, and I do), but otherwise it would have been a pleasure.

Dave, please alert us when next you're headed to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Stuart, I drove through there a couple of years ago, but I could find no truck parking!  I assume people want stuff on the store shelves,... but I gathered they didn't want the trucks anywhere around because I found nothing in the way of safe and legal places to park.  That's the primary challenge in many locations.

Thanks, dash.  Perhaps we could have a meet up at Belloc's birthplace!

I mean to go to Paris in the Fall, Dash.  And when I do, I'm hoping you'll be willing to meet for coffee.
