Aloha ... For Now
I have a warning for the Ricochetoise: I'm about to leave on vacation. That means there's a very good chance that Richard Epstein may start talking today and not wrap up until I return in a few weeks.
I wanted to use this occasion to share with all of you something that's been on my mind for a while. It grows out of a conversation I had with a friend a few weeks ago. I mentioned that this was going to be the first non-working vacation I've taken in several years. His response: "You must be so relieved." Mine: "Yeah, but I'm going to miss Ricochet."
When I signed onto the Ricochet team back in December, I thought it would be an entertaining side project. To my shock, it's turned out to be an extended family.
It's an honor to share the page here with so many bright, good-humored contributors. It's a delight to see one of the member's handles on a comments page and feel like I'm receiving an e-mail from an old friend. And it's charmingly surreal to be the guy who gets to joke with John Yoo about gay softball teams.
All that to say thank you all for all the support, humor, and thoughtful dialogue each of you provides. I'll look forward to seeing you all again in September. Until then, be well -- and don't ask Richard any questions.

Re: Aloha ... For Now
I hope you'll be vacationing in the lovely Nashville! (And merely disguising your secret whereabouts with this photo).

What a sweet post, Troy. Spending most of my waking hours on this site, it's personally gratifying to see that you share the same sentiments I do about this place!
Enjoy the vacation. I guess it's good every once in a while to live life untethered to the internet for a few days. I look forward to my first week-long vacation sometime in August, 2012.

That would be the honeymoon, I'll wager. :)

Fine, abandon us in our time of need. While you lie on the beach, sipping a Dirty Banana (best beach drink, ever), please consider my request, that we rename the Faculty Lounge the Epstein Barr.
Re: Aloha ... For Now
You will be sorely missed, Troy.
Talk about going viral!

Re: Aloha ... For Now
Troy -- I thoroughly enjoy Law Talk and Young Guns -- each alone justifies the cost of the flagship starbucks latte-cino frappe. You are one of the wittiest guys on Ricochet. Third place behind Steyn and Lileks which is a hell of a thing. Have fun on vacation, and rest up so you can create a backlog of podcasts.
Now about Epstein. I do marvel at his soliloquies. Some people speak in grunts, some in sentences, some in paragraphs. Epstein is the only one I've heard who speaks in law review articles with no intervening terminal punctuation marks after any given sentence.

Re: Aloha ... For Now
A few podcasts ago you said that anyone who got your Dexter reference and was on Ricochet was considered a friend, so as a friend I say enjoy your vacation

We can just go ahead and make the change while he's out of town. By the time he gets back, it'll be subject to the 48-hour rule. "Oh, that old thing? That's been the official name since August."

Re: Aloha ... For Now
Troy, let me take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy your hosting of "Law Talk". Your intellect, combined with your humour, along with John and Richard (of course), makes that podcast one of the most fun, yet intellectually exhilarating, on the web. People give me the strangest looks as I break out laughing while taking a walk. May I call you from jail, or should I reserve the quarter for John? They would never give me enough time to talk to Richard. Of that I am sure. Anyway, have a great vacation. We will look forward to your return.
Re: Aloha ... For Now
No question that a Photoshop of Troy in a grass skirt is imminent.

What makes you think it would have to be a photoshop?

I lovingly and admiringly refer to Professor Epstein as "The Human Paragraph."

He's a walking filibuster. You know what a filibuster is, don't you? That's where you yield the floor to someone and they hit you over the head with it.

Have a wonderful time. I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of people who can't get enough of Law Talk. You are a hilarious moderator!
Prof. Epstein may be verbose, but he explains complicated things lucidly and is incandescently smart. Let the man talk! He's got stuff to say.
