Allen West - The Hammer
His message to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz:
From: Z112 West, Allen Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2011 04:48 PM To: Wasserman Schultz, Debbie Cc: McCarthy, Kevin; Blyth, Jonathan; Pelosi, Nancy; Cantor, Eric Subject: Unprofessional and Inappropriate Sophomoric Behavior from Wasserman-Schultz
Look, Debbie, I understand that after I departed the House floor you directed your floor speech comments directly towards me. Let me make myself perfectly clear, you want a personal fight, I am happy to oblige. You are the most vile, unprofessional ,and despicable member of the US House of Representatives. If you have something to say to me, stop being a coward and say it to my face, otherwise, shut the heck up. Focus on your own congressional district!
I am bringing your actions today to our Majority Leader and Majority Whip and from this time forward, understand that I shall defend myself forthright against your heinous characterless behavior……which dates back to the disgusting protest you ordered at my campaign hqs, October 2010 in Deerfield Beach.
You have proven repeatedly that you are not a Lady, therefore, shall not be afforded due respect from me!
Steadfast and Loyal
Congressman Allen B West (R-FL)
You really want to mess with West, Congresswoman? Really?
I think West should still be considered a viable VP pick for the Republican ticket.

OK, I have to ask...what did she say?

Good question. But whatever it was, his response was better.

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
The Hill has some of it. If that's all she said, the he may have overreacted. But, having heard her before, I'm sure that's not all she said.

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
This may be the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Wasserman-Schultz has been a constant source of irritation for West since he's been in Washington.

I want to see her flinch when the .45 goes off six inches from her ear. This hero knows how to get someones's attention and woe to those who ignore him.
I think Howard Dean accurately described her a couple years ago with a heartfelt "aarrggghhhhhhh" .

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
I think she said just about every liberal cliche available. She should be scorned for her emptiness.

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
When Debbie Wasserman Schultz acceded to the position of chief political hack to the Democrats’ head policy honcho (“As the chair of the Democratic National Committee, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz works every day to advance [the President’s] agenda and ensure his re-election and to elect Democratic candidates across the country”), her first instinct was to prey on her next door Republican neighbor because he represents their greatest threat and worst enemy: a warrior steadfast and loyal to our way of life with the content of character that can attract the minds and save the souls of multitudes enslaved in dependency on the Democrats’ plantation.

I don't like it. Too personal and direct. Too riled.

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
At what point does sanctimonious grate? Platitudes nauseate? Insults to one’s intelligence irritate?
The Democrats’ demagogy has rendered most numb to its appeals to emotions, absurd claims, overwrought imagery, and incitement to irresponsibility, but it shouldn’t and for Congressman West it hasn’t.
Moreover, her ascension as DNC head would be inscrutable if it were not for her district’s abutment with his. Her job is to eliminate him—using the full force and resources of the national committee.
He has to defeat her attacks on two fronts: in defense of our American way of life and of his district.

Immediately.
The spectrum of possible responses includes more than numbness and irascibility.
Her job is to eliminate him—using the full force and resources of the national committee.
He has to defeat her attacks on two fronts: in defense of our American way of life and of his district.
He'd better learn to do it with a lot more finesse if he hopes to succeed without discrediting himself.

Hmm. Do you dislike it for a Rep? Or a potential National candidate?
Inquiring tacticians want to know.

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
Sorry katievs people on the left use these types of replies (actually even more aggressive) against those on the right and its about time they get a piece of their own medicine. I'm sure Ms. Waserman Shultz and her minions will now use the gender card to label Rep. West a misogynist etc. He has always appeared very measured in his replies so something tells me that more was said than what appeared on the House floor. Turning the other cheek does not always work and there are times one has to unequivocally address an opponent.

I dislike it for a person. Even more for a public leader. In a conservative candidate for national office, I take it as evidence that his character and temperament are not what they should be.

People on the left lie about conservatives routinely. Should we give them a taste of their own medicine?
They use hyperbole and histrionics. Should we imitate them in that too?
I say we answer their demagoguery with substantive argument. We challenge their ignorance with knowledge. We oppose their violence with calm strength. We expose their corruption by contrasting it with rectitude. We match their brutality and blundering with our grace and charm.
Let's be statesmen.

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
He’s using the finesse commensurate with the character and intentions of whom he’s exposing. After all, there is a most vile, a most unprofessional, and a most despicable member of the US House of Representatives. Is he to be criticized for giving notice she ranks as being all three?

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
katievs, how has what you prefer worked so far? It really has not because in end the conservatives are too busy apologizing for whatever transgression they are accused of and the intended message is lost. The general public respects those that stand up for themselves and show that they have a firm backbone.

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
He's using no finesse at all. He is to be criticized for being too direct, too personal, too riled. It was unstatesmanlike.
For a comparison, see Peter Robinson's recent Uncommon Knowledge interview with a former Soviet physicist who turned ant-Soviet activist.
He said non-violence was an essential dimension of their efforts and their eventual victory. Why? Because violence was the specialty of the KGB. There was no competing with them on that front. Because they were more powerful and completely ruthless, they always won. What overcame them was the moral force of right.
Republicans can't compete with Democrats in the rude, lying rhetoric and insults department. We'll lose every time, while we discredit ourselves with our own base.

Re: Allen West - The Hammer
It worked great for Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher. They were brilliant at besting their opponents without sinking to their level. Some of the British conservatives are an absolute delight to listen to while they systematically eviscerate the opposition without ever getting personal or losing their cool. I'll see if I can find a good clip to link.

Fair enough, madam. However, I'll note that disliking the national appeal of a local pol's demeanor is small beans for a rep.
I dislike (and I suspect that you do also) a great deal about many politicians generally.
A pol playing to his constituency is the standard, not the exception.
Politics is a contact sport, no weenies need apply.
Allen West as a 21st century Charles Martel (the Hammer) is awfully appealing.
Baby steps.
