I have a man-crush on that man. I gave him $25 last election, so I still get his emails, which are a pleasure to read. Excellent investment.

Of all those elected to Congress by the Tea Party wave, only two - Allen West and Rand Paul - still continue to breathe fire.

Re: Allen West Gets it Right
I wouldn't want to make Rep. West mad at me and be in the same room with him (especially a small room).

Re: Allen West Gets it Right
Thanks, Tom. I wouldn't have seen this otherwise.
I'd like to add that flownover was the first I saw bring up Our Soldiers hanging from a bridge during a urinegate discussion.

We have one sane Alan West in Washington and an infinite number of bufoons it seems. These responses just become more and more absurd:
War crimes?! This is insane.

possible war crimes charges. The Marines could face jail time.
War crimes?! This is insane.
Well, we need to make this a real pissing match then.
If Obama/Panetta/Clinton think they can duck this one, then we need to make this a national debate.
They punished the people for Abu Ghraib, and who was hurt there ?
These are places where we have fought to stop the more heinous crimes imaginable being done to a whole country full of people by either a dictator or a group of religious zealots. And the persecution of some of our soldiers will be done for purely political posturing to please the same people (Taliban) that have been killing us !!
Absolutely insane. Rep West understands they tried to do it to him.

The man tells it like it is, war is not teddy bears and smiles. Every elected politician should have served. To this day, I still like Ike.

Re: Allen West Gets it Right
I think this Time magazine piece is, suprisingly, pretty good regarding al-Jamadi. I can't say I've invested enough time reading about it to have a strong opinion regarding the circumstances of his death. I do think there has been adequate documentation to conclude that the behavior of some of the soldiers at Abu Ghraib was disgusting and reprehensible, and they have been punished accordingly. What I also find disgusting is that our media does not bother to put things like this in proper context, and that most Americans know "Abu Ghraib" as "that place where we tortured some terrorists", and know nothing of the horrors that Saddam Hussein inflicted upon tens of thousands of people there. I will be making a post sometime soon, recommending that everyone read "In the Wake of the Surge", and I plan on touching on this topic.

You have data for that statement?

I wasn't making a statement of fact, I was making a statement of perception. Are there any polls asking people what they think of Abu Ghraib? I am fairly certain that most Americans know nothing of the atrocities that occurred there when Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq, just as I am fairly certain that lots of Americans recognize the phrase "Abu Ghraib", but few recognize "al-Anfal".

Incidentally, I think Allen West's comments about the urination video are exactly right.

So, Yer "perception" is "fairly certain" "....that most Americans know 'Abu Ghraib' as that place where we tortured some terrorists",..
Well, where I'm at Our "perception" is different and find that insulting.

Congratulations on your childish quotation marks. If you would like to go out and conduct a poll, asking people what they think of Abu Ghraib, and report back to us, I'd appreciate it. I'm speaking of my personal experience here; most people I know, if I said "Abu Ghraib", would have approximately the description I gave above. I'm sure if I only talked to Ricochet members, this would not be the case. Do you think that the media has fairly reported on Abu Ghraib, and has put it properly in a broader context? Do you believe that more Americans know about the detainee abuse at Abu Ghraib, or about the al-Anfal campaign of genocide against the Kurds?
