I think running an ad like this is a good sign that your campaign is in trouble. Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) is known for his cautious and subtle rhetoric (e.g. "Republicans want you to die quickly."). He's a first-term congressman in an exceedingly tough race against Daniel Webster. In fact, I think Webster has the edge.

In the ad above, Grayson accuses Webster of refusing the call to military service six times. It pulls out all of these emotional stops -- an old soldier's voice cracks as Taps is played ruefully on a bugle. Only problem is that nothing in the ad is true, apparently. Webster served in the ROTC during college and reported immediately after he graduated -- only to be disqualified for medical reasons. And then the unidentified narrator says that Webster "doesn't love this country."

But other than that, "draft dodger" is a great ad. Oh, and what about Grayson's military career?

He didn't serve a single day.

I think running an ad like this is a good sign that Grayson thinks "Baghdad Bob" was a piker.

I know stuff like this is supposed to cheer me up because, as you say, it suggests a weak Democratic campaign. But it reinforces my perception that an increasing number of people on the Left feel no obligation to respect their enemies. In and out of D.C., this sort of blatant disregard for truth and for the dignity of others will preclude real debate and result in gross injustices.

This, from the party of Bill Clinton? From the party of Obama, who says we can absorb another attack? I usually steer clear of these kinds of debates about who served and who did not, ...those who do serve defend the right of others to choose otherwise and that's okay. But this ad... I must choose my words carefully because it really is infuriating. This ad is despicable. There is no indication of truth, honor, or shame. It is revealing in a way that Grayson probably never imagined. What a truly contemptible display by a manifestly dishonorable man.

That ad is dumb and abominable beyond words. As a side note, I just plucked this from his website:

Alan's Record

Alan Grayson has fought hard, and delivered for Central Florida. In a year and a half, he's doubled funding in jobs and infrastructure projects in the district in Federal grants, and increased them by 500% in Congressionally-directed projects.

This is his primary achievement, dragging pork to his district. So, if he does better next time, will he increase it by 600%? 1000%? Will he be ashamed when he looks back at the bad old 500% days? What's the goal anyway?

The ad is a great indication of what the left really thinks of it's opponents. Grayson, as do most lefties, certainly thinks himself a good guy. He would tell you he would never unleash an untrue ad on good and decent people. Hence the catch,

Conservatives are not good and decent in the minds of the left. Any means.... is the motto of the left... It's just starting....

I'd copyright the line "The Devil and Daniel Webster" except the Devil is at least smart, and a dangerous opponent. Grayson's just a clueless loser, and I will lick his tears like Cartman come November.

Semi-OT: Dishonorable Discharge? Man, oh, man. I'm really starting to miss Peter. Sure, people pant after Mark like he's Justin Bieber failing to escape a horde of teeny-boppers on his Segway. An embarrassment for all involved. Peter's influence is more subtle, but very valuable. Two weeks he's been gone, and the glue weakens. The Beams that gird the Dark Tower flicker and waver.

Sorry, Mollie, nothing to do with the post, just miss Peter and looking for a suitable place to register that thought.

Looks the the only thing the Democrats have is demonizing their opponents. Here in Illinois Debbie Halvorsen dragged out some senior citizens to repeat lies and half truths about Adam Kinzinger (a decorated Air National Guard pilot), and Bill Foster trotted out some mope who defaulted on his mortgage (showing him making a frowny face in front of his foreclosed house, a house much nicer than the one I've struggled to make payments on for 20 years, including through several bouts of unemployment and raising 5 kids) to attack Randy Hultgren.
