Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
For those of you who aren't familiar with him, comedian and author Adam Carolla is one of the funniest people on the entire planet. He's also the most downloaded man in the world (surpassing the Brit Ricky Gervais this year).
A few months back I heard Adam (a self-described atheist-Independent, but after listening to him talk politics, economics, and cultural issues...definitely on the Center-Right) talking about his respect and admiration for conservative talk-show host Dennis Prager. I am friends with Dennis and upon hearing Adam's glowing remarks, I contacted Dennis' producer Allen Estrin and recommended that they have Carolla on the air. On May 26th, this happened.
Not only did Dennis and Adam get along famously, but because I had played a role in bringing the two talkers together, Adam agreed to an interview on my podcast (A Voice in the Wilderness: The R.J. Moeller Show).
I am an evangelical conservative in my late 20's. Adam is an atheist Independent (perhaps even libertarian) in his mid 40's. Dennis is a religious Jew on the Right in his early 60's.
I am from Chicago. Adam is from North Hollywood. Dennis is from the Burroughs of New York City.
And yet we all agree on some very key, very fundamental things about the economy, about centralized power in the hands of the few, about stifling regulation, and about the importance of a strong family unit. I can't stress how important I think it is to be building these bridges between like-minded Americans. That seems to be one of the missions of Ricochet, and is one of the reasons I've enjoyed being a member here so much these past 6 months
The interview Adam gave to Dennis on his show is superb, but we held our own when chatting with The Ace Man last week. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.
(Note Adam's interview is at the 1:07:00 mark in the episode).

Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
Congratulations! I can't wait to listen to both podcasts. I have become a HUGE fan of Corolla and his podcast. It actually amazes me he is so popular because he is a no-nonsense advocate for common sense in all things and right now that makes him fundamentally conservative. Basically he's just a comedian. Quite a brilliant one and he's amazingly deft on his feet, and all the comedy gold is in ridiculing the left and many of the results of their cultural interference. Comedy must be based on truth.
He's not openly partisan he just talks about real life and makes observations that many agree with. Politically he is libertarian but his cultural observations are conservative. He and his friends can make sailors blush at their language and references, but that doesn't bother me too much. I encourage ricochet listeners to download his podcasts - as long as they are prepared for some crude and foul language and references. They are just words anyway...congrats again RJ!

I couldn't agree more with all of it. Thanks, Franco!

Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
Just listened to both and they were great! I had heard Corolla's story about the Forest Lawn speed trap on one of his recent podcasts and it so rang true for me. It is becoming obvious that the state is regulating for revenue and the cops are stopping us for revenue not so much 'for our safety" If they were so concerned for our safety they'd be enforcing more and patrolling more for real crime.
I have been contemplating how to introduce the ricochet community to Adam Corolla and hadn't quite gotten the angle, and here you come with this post. I'm really thrilled. The problem was his language and I even thought of transcribing him minus the obcenities but it would lose something, which I found interesting in and of itself. Are obcenities a form of passion punctuation? If you leave them out and substitute another word for rhythm and cadence it still loses something. Then I had the thought that it has the element of code...
Anyway, You being an evangelical conservative listening to Corolla - that sure kills the idea that you guys are stuffy and puritanical! I hope this gets more attention here.

Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
I'm listening to it now, R.J.
I've been subscribed to Adam's podcasts for a while now, though I don't listen to them all. I heard the one where Christopher Titus said he'd hang out on the grassy knoll with a rifle waiting for Sarah Palin. I remembered why I stopped watching Titus' show: it wasn't very funny. He's still not very funny, but he laughs at his own jokes, so at least someone is enjoying it.
Yeah, the language is pretty obscene. Mom and Dad wouldn't approve. Adam can be pretty funny though.
Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
This is GREAT! Fantastic podcast, and I'm a huge fan of Adam's. How great that you went after him, and got him.
And you're right -- there is something special about three very different people agreeing on a few rock-solid basics.
Bravo!

I also wanted to broach the subject of Adam C. on Ricochet- and I am glad I got the info about your podcast as well. The interview with Dennis Prager was very good. Way to go!

Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
I love Adam despite his colorful language, which is exactly how I used to talk 20 - 30 years ago. It is so nice to hear someone from Hollywood just un-apologetically bring it. If you haven't heard his show with Brietbart you have to search his archives and listen, pure gold.

Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
I've always liked Adam Corolla. But a podcast just doesn't have the flavor of The Man Show, which always featured busty young women bouncing on trampolines.

Wow RJ. Get it on! Got to get it on! Mandate...I love Adam because he is funny in the weeds like nobody and he is doing it his way. Frank. I love Sinatra. I see Glenn Beck doing it his way soon. And you RJ are an inspiration too. God bless!

Franco, thanks for taking the time to listen. It means a lot to me. I echo everything you've said here, including the stuff about profanities. I'm no prude, but it's hard to convince, for example, someone at my church (who would otherwise agree with Adam) to take him seriously with all the vulgarity he employs. But we still must begin building stronger bonds with like-minded people.
Stay in touch. I think we'll have more to chat about in the near future.
God bless!

Adam is hilarious. There is no way around it. His words ring true and his style is contagious. We don't live in a perfect world and I'm no saint myself, so I don't expect everyone I find myself agreeing with to behave as I would (or would want to). What I am after on my site and my podcast is truth. Unfiltered, unadulterated truth. For the most part, that is what Adam brings to the table.
Thanks for listening!

Rob...and I mean this...your kind words will fuel me for 6 months as I continue to pursue my dream (of doing whatever it is you and Steyn do). I cannot thank you enough for listening to our show. The ONLY reason we started a podcast is because of two people: Rob Long and Tony Kornheiser. My friends (all in their mid-20's) think I'm the strangest guy alive because I never stop talking about how much I enjoy the opinion and humor of RL and TK. You inspired me to pursue this, and to read affirmation from you means a lot.
I feel blessed to be blogging for AEI and Americans For Prosperity and doing my podcast and all that...but I won't rest until I'm Skyping with Long, Robinson and Lileks one day soon. Living the dream.
God bless, Mr. Long.

Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
Glad you enjoyed it. It's really hard to beat Dennis Prager. The guy's a rock-star (in my bizarre, conservative world). And to find out that Adam respected and listened to him only re-affirmed my own love of all things Prager.
If you liked the interview I did with Adam, please feel free to forward it along to anyone else. The more the merrier at rjmoeller.com!
Take care!

Ha, thanks! It's crazy how things can start to snowball when you apply yourself and catch a few breaks. My writing has opened up doors for me and I've simply walked through them, not knowing where things would lead. I have a driving passion for getting my generation (current 18-30 demo) informed and engaged regarding the social, economic, political issues of our day. People like Adam Carolla can reach an audience I never can, so I merely wanted to harness some of that cultural credibility he posses in order to hopefully hook more people my own age into starting an intellectual process/journey of their own.
All of the social justice, hipster evangelicals my age aren't the new evangelical. I am the new evangelical. Politically astute. Theologically sound. Culturally aware and relevant. Traditional values. And a sense of humor doesn't hurt either.
Sorry for the babbling, and thanks for checking my site/show out. Stay in touch!

Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
You are SO right! Unapologetic is a trait I crave in those I glean insight from.
And the interview he did with Breitbart (May 12th, I believe) was phenomenal. Those two pack quite the punch.

Re: Adam Carolla Came On My Podcast!
The Man Show was an original piece of pop culture, that is for sure. Chicks on trampolines is definitely lacking from the audio podcast format.
Did you get a chance to hear my interview with Adam? I'd be interested in your thoughts. I know we've exchanged comments in the past and you seem like someone with good common sense, so let me know what you thought when you get a moment.
Thanks!
