A Very Special Edition of the Law Talk Hotline
Later this week, the Law Talk professors and I will be convening for a special episode of the podcast, unlike any we've ever done before. We can't give everything away up front, but one of the factors that will distinguish this show is that we'll be eschewing the headlines and sticking primarily to first principles, dealing in questions of legal history and philosophy. We'd like our members to be a part of this process and, as such, are reopening the Law Talk Hotline so that Professors Epstein and Yoo can take your questions.
The process is simple. Give us a call at (424) 652-8301, tell us your Ricochet handle and where you're from, and leave us your question. Remember to keep it concise (which dramatically increases the odds that we'll be able to use it) and to focus on evergreen issues rather than what's in today's headlines. Get your calls in by Wednesday morning to ensure they're considered. We look forward to hearing from you (unless you want to borrow money, in which case I'll give you Richard's private number).

Re: A Very Special Edition of the Law Talk Hotline
In case I miss, will you accept this comment rather than a phone call? I would like to get their assessment of the governor/president pardon issue that comes up every time there is an out-going office holder. Every time there is controversy but it never seems to change. Why do we have this precedence? It seems to be a hold-over from the right of the sovereign to show mercy as the personification of the state (l'état, c'est moi). At any rate what's the legal doctrine and does it make sense?

What day and at what hour are you taking the calls?
This is open mic night? Any topic of historical legal relevancy?
Re: A Very Special Edition of the Law Talk Hotline
The hotline is now open and we're taking calls through Wednesday morning. Of course, you can ask anything you like, but we're focusing on big picture legal and/or constitutional issues. This is a forum probably better suited for a broad question on the Bill of Rights than a narrow one on the syntax of the Third Amendment.
