Many Ricochet readers, I suspect, are not aware of a trust that has been set up for the children of Andrew Breitbart. Donations can be sent to:

Hats off to the Bruin Standard, a monthly newspaper written by some conservative students at UCLA, through which I learned of the trust. Many of the student writers at the newspaper knew Breitbart personally. The latest issue, a touching memorial to Breitbart, noted "Andrew Breitbart was a hardworking, prominent, successful man but not a wealthy one. He left behind four children, and a trust has been set up to help provide for his family in their time of need."
I have donated. I hope others will too.

Helping a family in need, especially the family of a man who did so much for the country, is very good. I hope it will not be taken wrong, however, if I inquire whether the family is truly in need. (E.g., Did Andrew Breitbart not have life insurance, or did he have insufficient life insurance? In addition to insurance proceeds, will his savings and continuing book sales not be sufficient?)
I ask only because I think potential donors should have the full range of information.
Speaking personally, I miss Andrew Breitbart every day, and my heart goes out to his family.

I don't doubt for a moment the sincerity of this fund, but its surprising that Andrew wasn't a wealthy man. I had assumed that given his celebrity-like status and the popularity of his work, that he would at least be moderately wealthy.

I know nothing about the trust and will withhold judgment until I learn more. It's sad if thewife and kids aren't set.
Attention all you providers out there! Please remember what Dave Ramsey says: I'm proud when I pay my life insurance bill. It means I'm taking responsibility for my family.

I have known about the trust since it was first set up. Bear in mind that it can be tough to get much in the way of insurance with a problematic medical history and, I believe, he knew he had heart problems.
I get the impression that as each of the Big sites stumbled along towards black ink, he plowed everything into the launching of new sites and promoting their content. I suspect he had conflicting concerns: immediately perceived career mission with dire consequences from delay, opposing intermediate health issues that caught him earlier than he anticipated.

My husband and I are budgeting to donate to The Breitbart Children's Trust. We are also intent on getting life insurance, and while we're in our middle-earlies, probably still feel invincible enough to have put that off. When Andrew died, we were in Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. That was the first time we had thought of term life insurance--and the second. God bless Susie Breitbart and their four darling kids. Long live Ricochet.
