Fox News is presently running a special on the history of the conservative movement. Today, the network featured Ronald Reagan’s "A Time for Choosing" speech. Although I wasn't born until 1988, Reagan's last year in office, I've been inspired by his speeches, which I've seen on YouTube. Please note that there are some graphic images in this video.

Reagan delivered "A Time for Choosing" in 1964 on behalf of Barry M. Goldwater who was running against Lyndon B. Johnson at the time. Reagan’s 30-minute assault on the welfare state and big government in "A Time For Choosing" catapulted him into the national spotlight, setting the stage for his 1980 presidential victory.

In 1964, America was faced with what Reagan called a ‘simple’ choice:

This is the issue of this election: Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American Revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.

The American people could either elect ‘The Great Society’ of Lyndon Johnson, or elect a man who promised to decrease the size of government, implement a flat tax, and dramatically alter the strategies of the Cold War.

Americans today still face this same simple choice, as government grows at a frightening rate. I am cautiously hopeful about the future of conservatism. Are you Ricocheters optimistic? Or are you afraid that our gains on November 2nd are the best we can do?

May I humbly suggest this speech as well. The line "In this country of ours took place the greatest revolution that has ever taken place in world's history, the only true revolution. Every other revolution simply exchanged one set of rulers for another. But here for the first time in all the thousands of years of man's relation to man, a little group of men, the Founding Fathers, for the first time established the idea that you and I had within ourselves the God-given right and ability to determine our own destiny." is my new ringtone.

I suppose the next possible Reagan for us is the youngster from Wisconsin Paul Ryan. He has been my favorite politician for a while. He won't run in 2012 though.

So I suppose that the best choice will be Mitch Daniels, he has done some great stuff for Indiana according to what I've seen. I am really optimistic about Christ Christie, Allen West, Nikki Haley, and of course Marco Rubio.

"Comes the hour, comes the man" is an ancient truism. We're being prepared for that leader, but first we have to be tried in the furnace; to awaken us and force the moral decisions that determine how true we really are.

All RINO's and fakers have to be exposed and marginalized - expelled from positions of authority - or we'll be subverted again.

It was painful to watch Brit Hume's Fox series, and be reminded again of the betrayals by Johnson, Nixon and Carter. They lied to obtain support, and then cast aside every principle they professed when they achieved the Oval Office.

I couldn't agree more. A line from our very first song a year and a half ago. "I'm starting to see a modern day Jimmy Carter, but it's really nothing but a Reagan era starter"
