A Ricochet Encounter on the Street
Like all of us, I'm gripped by what's going on in Egypt.
But, if you'll allow me: a slight diversion.
Yesterday, walking the dog up to Ocean Front Walk in Venice Beach -- I was plugged into Claire and Judith's podcast -- a guy stops me. He looks vaguely familiar. I take out my earbuds.
It was Ricochet's own Duane Oyen -- in LA for the weekend with his lovely wife for a fast sunshine injection. (It's cold back there in Minnesota, apparently. Who knew?)
They were walking down the beach path, and the two of us practically collided into each other. Ricochet is a neighborhood in more ways than one. And that's a very good thing.

What, Rob? No picture of the dog? Never let a dog comment go to waste.

Re: A Ricochet Encounter on the Street
As a citizen of California, I extend a warm welcome to Duane and his bride.
We're all grateful for your sales taxes, lodging taxes, rental car taxes and airport landing fees. An invoice for California Visitor Carbon Offsets will await you upon your return to the frozen, vasty North.

And I got to have lunch with them, Rob! I'm still excited over it! I'm just happy that I didn't do what I normally do when meeting celebrities: turn into a slavering 12 year old.

You might say it's a place "where everybody knows your name..."

Ricochet is a place where everyone knows your name and they don't type it in caps.

Re: A Ricochet Encounter on the Street
I was wondering why Duane hadn't weighed in on the Egyptian brouhaha.
Good for him that it was play rather than work.
Re: A Ricochet Encounter on the Street
So how many Southern Californians do we have here? Maybe it's time for a SoCal RicoSoiree?

Re: A Ricochet Encounter on the Street
I always start walking to those things and never manage to get there in time. Maybe I can bunk with Dave Carter.

Re: A Ricochet Encounter on the Street
Also have serious suspicions about the random nature of this encounter. "Oh, hey, Rob, fancy meeting you here! Who'da thought? Small world, huh?"

Re: A Ricochet Encounter on the Street
I'm with Kennedy. How many times did poor Mrs. Oyen have to trudge up and down Ocean front walk before bumping into Rob...?

It's merely déjà vu all over again.
Re: A Ricochet Encounter on the Street
This encounter might seem a little less random if you knew that at least part of Ocean Front Walk is known by another, more familiar name: Muscle Beach. Evidently, Rob and Duane share the same hobby.

Who knew?

When you get to this level, half of this game is ninety percent mental.
