Christie

Late last week, The Weekly Standard ran an editorial advising Mitt Romney to "go bold" with his choice of running mate, with special emphasis placed on the attractiveness of Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio as potential number twos. Now comes this interesting addition:

As of Friday, when we wrote the editorial, we’d been led to believe [Chris] Christie wasn't in serious consideration. We now have reason to think he may be. So to be clear: We'd certainly include him with Ryan and Rubio as potential gold medal finalists. As to choosing among the three of them? A photo finish. But choosing a VP candidate who will help Romney run a big, forward looking campaign—that is not a close call.

OK, Ricochetti: as the beating heart of the conservative moment, it only seems right that you be the tie-breakers. If your choices for the final three are Christie, Ryan, and Rubio, who would you prefer?

Ryan.

Don't care for the other two. At least not for this job at this time.

Ryan.  We need Rubio in the Senate, and he needs more time. I fully expect to see him as president some day. But this is not the time.  Christie is great as who he is, but not at all the right person for the vp slot.

By the way, I still prefer Bobby Jindal for this job at this time.

Ryan would force the issue of good stewardship of the purse. POTUS and his minions would love to push the cruel, heartless meme on the ticket - which Romney/Ryan would try to counter with the "Where's the Dem budget plan?" and highlight their wishful thinking and unicorn poop.

Rubio may be viewed as a pander-bear pick.

Christie vs Biden might be television worthy of pay-per-view.

At this point, I think Obama is failing so miserably, Romney could win with any of the top contenders.  I think we're simply waiting for the choice so that we can react and create the specifics our own little psychological response to the new reality.

My vote is for Paul Ryan with a custom-created responsibility package to turn VP into a real job.  My least favorite choices:  McDonnell, Jindal, and Portman.

I wonder if Christie offers any extra appeal for the gravitationally-challenged among us? If so, that's a whole bunch of people.

If they ran a halfway decent campaign, a GOP ticket of Elmer Fudd and Daffy Duck could beat Obumbler.

Ryan.

Though Jindal would be fine.

Rubio.

He's the only one who comes close to Reagan in his understanding of conservatism.

I'm concerned that Jindal's charms would be lost on anyone who is not already ready to walk over glass to vote out Obama.  I'm concerned McDonnell isn't exciting for anyone.  I'm concerned Portman isn't media/spontanaety-tested.

What's all the out-of-the blue stuff I hear about Rubio not being "natural-born" being an issue?

Ryan please, although Christie would be the most fun.  I would like to see Rubio get more experience before being added to (or heading up) a ticket.

Indeed. I can't believe he's even being considered.

I'm only just warming to the idea of voting for Romney. I have yet to give him full-throated support. But Christie would set back my progress by years.

Tie for gold between Christie and Ryan.  Rubio takes the bronze.

[If you like, insert your own Chris Christie is a large person joke here.  Note the use of the word "big" in the Weekly Standard article.]

Ryan.  Rubio needs several more years seasoning.  Although I admire Christie's accomplishments given the environment in New Jersy, his political philosophy is more pragmatist than conservative which is NOT what is needed at this time.

Ryan. Rubio can help us control the Senate, and Christie might not travel well. But, yes, Christie in the debates . . . what a temptation!

Of the three, Ryan by a long shot. Agree with everyone that Rubio is just limbering up and not ready for the floor show yet. He'll score a 10 when he hits the mat, though. Christie is fun to watch, but we need him attack dogging the opposition without being tied officially to the ticket.
