Dad

My goal has been to keep my posts trained on the issues and choices that are facing us as the election draws near.  But sometimes, life happens, and this is one of those times.  If you have a moment today, I respectfully request your prayers for my Dad, who was hospitalized yesterday.  You may recall a post from last year, when we learned of his Alzheimer's.  His memory has been playing tricks on him, as you might imagine, though he's been as full of mischief as ever.  It appears he had some sort of stroke yesterday.  Of course, a variety of tests will be run and we, as a family, will do all we can for Dad even as we seek God's guidance and help.

Did I ever tell you about the time that Dad and his sister went walking on the railroad tracks in our hometown?  They were both kids themselves, you see.  Now, the tracks were owned by Southern Pacific railroad, and so the letters "S P" were stamped on them.  Reading the letters aloud, his sister said, "S P," ... to which Dad immediately replied, "S don't."  She ran home and tattled and he was in trouble yet again.  Seems to be family trait.  He's a good man, a veteran, a retired minister, and he's my very best friend.  My highest honor is being his son.  Your prayers are appreciated.

I don't have a lot of influence upstairs, but I will pray for him and you and your family.  You seem to be a wonderful example of his character and faith.  May God bless him always.

Oh Dave, I'm so sorry to hear about your father. My own father passed away after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for many years. This are hard times for you and your family and you'll all be in our prayers.

Having lost my own father all too recently, you may be assured of my prayers for hi, for you, and for all your family. I pray that God will grant you to know His peace in a deep and profound way as you navigate the path ahead. And I pray that the experience will draw you all closer. Together and closer to Him.

Dave, my father is about the same age as yours:  WW2 vet, Royal Air Force, in his late 80s.  (He's the reason I chose "dogsbody", the call sign of a famous RAF ace, for my Ricochet name.)  So I know a little of what you're facing, and I'll be praying for you and your Dad.

You're right--it's an honor.

"Be still my soul, the Lord is on thy side;

Bare patiently, the cross of grief or pain;

Leave to thy God to order and provide;

In every change He faithful will remain.

Be still my soul;  thy best, they heavenly Friend

Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end.
