The Washington Post has just hired our old friend, Ricochet fan Jennifer Rubin, to contribute to the Post's website.  Jen, formerly of Commentary, will be writing about--brace yourself--conservatives.

Strange but true.  After the flap earlier this year in which it emerged that the Post's previous blogger on conservatives, David Weigel, had used "Journolist," the left-wing email exchange, to let his fellow journalists know just how thoroughly he disdained conservatives--Weigel resigned when this became public--the Post has finally hired an actual conservative to write about conservatives.

In addition to being capable of writing about conservatives without looking down her nose at them, Jen Rubin is tough-minded, brilliant and irresistibly readable.  We wish her luck--and hope the Post recognizes its wonderful good fortune.

Another round of anthropological forays into deepest darkest Conservatism by the doughty explorers at the Post.  Best of luck Ms. Rubin.  Remember, they adore reading about mating rituals, precious dietary anecdotes, and social dominance related behaviors.

Obviously, comparisons to humans are strictly taboo.  Can't offend the readers.

She's no fan of Palin's, that's couldn't have hurt her chances.

I wish I had a dollar for everyone who was no Palin fan. Basically, what changes for either Rubin or Palin?

I really enjoy her work & wish her well. I also congratulate the Post for at last getting with the concept of honesty.

And that's at least part, I think, of what the Post is going for--to get that dollar from all the non-fans of Palin. But I could be wrong.

Her columns are a must-read. Hope she fares better than Kristol at the NYT.

I'd like to bookmark Ms. Rubin's link on the WaPo website but couldn't find her when I looked just now.  Am I looking in the wrong place or is she not linked on the site yet?

Jennifer Rubin may not be a Palin acolyte-booster, but she is not elitist nor is she a Palin hater.  She is, like Palin, accomplished in her career and also serious about her family.

And, amazingly enough, she actually is a conservative, and also one with no history of plagiarism!

But note that she is not the Jennifer Rubin who made all those direct-to-video B movies.

Hilarious. Rubin will be expected to bring back arrowheads as proof of her foray and perhaps a tattooed head man wearing feathers and a blanket. I can't think what's gotten into the WaPo unless someone came up from circulation and said there were a couple of presses they didn't need anymore. Or maybe it was an advertiser worried that 80% of the potential market seemed to be boycotting the product.

She brought back James Cameron ? Shame on her.

Well, I will miss finding Jennifer at Contentions, and can only hope for a direct link.

It'd be a hard slog through the WaPo for that gem !

Watch  out, there's a Dionne in front of you. Whoa....Eugene Robinson's been here ten minutes ago... put your ear on the rail.

WaPo actually has one intelligent editor there, Fred Hiatt.  And they initially hired Ben Domenech, who is indeed a Rubin-level conservative, but got busted for plagiarism.  I think that they are perfectly happy to have one genuine token conservative blogger.

I'd  much  prefer to see  gifted columnists like Jennifer Rubin  as  full participants  in the emerging new  media as opposed to   lending  credibility to  organizations that have a long track record of   carrying water for the progressive agenda while dishonestly feigning objectivity.
