Tim Pawlenty:

red_balloon

"I could give a speech and tell you I was running for president. I could have a podium with my campaign logo on it.  I could have balloons, red ones, white ones and blue ones,"

VS

Rick Santorum:

Santorum, a favorite among his party's social conservatives, chose to confirm his plans during an appearance Monday morning on ABC's "Good Morning America" at the balloon-draped site he chose in the western Pennsylvania coalfields for his formal announcement.

Pro-Balloon?  Anti-Balloon?  Who was the last Presidential Candidate to go an entire campaign sans balloon?   Can a balloonless candidate win in 2012?

Tell me where you stand, Ricochet.

Balloons are a clear sign of pettifoggery, moral turpitude, and flim-flammery. An ounce of substance and pounds of hot air!  Reject ballonery, my fellow citizens!

Hey man, have you not heard of Peak Helium?  At free-market rates, a helium balloon would cost $100!!!

Wait. Campaign balloons are filled with helium? I thought it was hot air.

I'll vote for the candidate with the guts to campaign on hydrogen balloons.

You could say William Howard Taft was the last candidate to campaign as a balloon.

Now there is a wise choice to get the Green vote.. Balloons are evil, so are the clowns that twist them into unnatural shapes..

Gen. Ball, gotta be quick around here. What happened? Get stuck in the bathtub?

Speaking of balloons and vintage campaigns, here's a classic ballon related cartoon from the 1890s (Is there a way to post an image in the comment itself?):

Might be due for an update.
