60 Minutes to America: SHUT UP!
So I just watched the 60 Minutes report on the proposed mosque near Ground Zero tonight and it was laughably bad. Perhaps the producers were under the impression that if you just one more time suggest Americans who oppose the mosque are bigots, they'll totally change their minds.
I actually am not opposed to the mosque near Ground Zero, which I suppose I should mention up front. But I really can't stand the way the media has decided to advocate instead of report the story. And this broadcast show is a prime example. It began with a puffy look at how awesome the developer of the mosque is. Then they noted how distant the mosque was from Ground Zero by showing that you had to walk all the way to the corner of the block before you could see the gaping hole left when Muslim extremists committed the worst act of terrorism against America by commandeering planes and crashing them into the World Trade Center towers. Then they ran a hostile interview of bogeyman Pamela Geller. They accused her of "moving" the mosque to Ground Zero and being the first person to do so in December of last year by emphasizing its proximity in her blog.
But I'm pretty sure the New York Times was first with the Dec. 8, 2009 story "Muslim Prayers and Renewal Near Ground Zero." The whole story was about why the group behind the mosque wanted to build so close to Ground Zero and why they were happy to have found a building that had been struck by debris from the terrorist attack.
Anyway, the story wrapped up with a look at how awesome Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is.
I'm all for asking tough questions of Geller, but I'm pretty sure that 60 Minutes could commit journalism by also asking some tough questions of the folks who want to build a mosque two blocks from Ground Zero, too.

Oh come now, Mollie. Only the hoariest of Philistines would slap away a hand so obviously extended in friendship. You and your "tough questions." Next we'll be "questioning" whether the Iranian & Saudi regimes have our best interests at heart.

IMHO, Geller is doing an excellent job documenting the rise of stealth (and not so stealth) jihad in North America. I know a lot of people will roll their eyes at that, but if you follow her posts you start to piece together the patterns of what is going on. Yeah, yeah, roll your eyes, but go check her out.
As for 60 minutes, why would we expect it to be any less biased than the rest of the CBS news team? It's just another branch of the same propaganda machine. It's not going anywhere fast because CBS is pleased with what it puts out for the cause. Wow, that sounds so paranoid when I see it written down.

I missed 60 minutes, but I did see that Christane Amanpour brought in a Muslim princess to lecture Americans about democratic values.

Pamella Geller is a noble warrior. Don't worry Canada, I've been yelping about the need for absolute anti-sharia laws in the U.S. every chance I get. Mostly all I get here is a yawn. Iman Rauf is a liar, a stealth jihadist The leftists in our media are stupid dhimmis. Most Americans know in their gut that this mosque is an ultimate insult, no matter how much our pansy, effete, elitists tell us how stupid we are.

Ha -- I was sort of hoping the issue was dying down! The fact is that I think that most of the issue is whether the group has the right to build. And I'm pretty absolute about that under normal circumstances, but the First Amendment issue makes it more important. Having said that, I think it's fine to discuss the propriety -- and have enjoyed that discussion. The media still don't get that issue, no matter how many people point it out.

Note, that for 60 Minutes, what matters is what the greater Muslim World thinks of us, based on mainstream news coverage--not what we think of ourselves.
