This is a continuation of a post the other day, in which I predicted there would be 116 Days till Joe Catches a Bad Cold. I've got Saturday, August 11th 1:00 PM Eastern Time with a Lung Disorder.

switch

I didn't think I was stepping to far out there. Now, I feel I'm right on target.  This morning I listened to NPR's 'Its All Politics' at the 21:30 mark. They're reporting that "Some" are calling for a switch-a-roo between HRC & Uncle Joe.

Yes that's right.  Secretary of State . If you are willing to tell Joe, "It's time to step down," okay, then do it! But to switch that Goof into a position of real responsibility, not to mention a position that demands clear thought and careful statements.  Who the [expletive] have "Some" been listening to the last 3 years?

What does Hillary gain by accepting the switch? She's going to run in 2016 anyway, so why tie herself to either an even worse Obama second term (all second terms are worse than first terms) or an ignominious defeat that her VP candidacy failed to avert?

I'm told by you and other super smart people that it won't, but I simply can't imagine what Biden adds to the ticket this time (last time he made sense), while Hillary would add considerable excitement for a lot of voters. While I've regularly been told that Obama won't pick her, I still can't find a reason.

For her, what she gains is a non-trivial chance of becoming President the easy way, what should be an easier primary in 2016 if she wins, and an even better resume for the general; she'd know the White House about as well as anyone on earth, including the views from Congress, and the Cabinet, as well as the VP and the First Lady. Republicans couldn't even hope to approach that kind of experience level.

Funny,  I thought when Obama picked Hillary for Secretary of State he did it on a calculation that he was going to do foreign policy himself and Hillary would be humiliated, but if things went wrong she would be a scape goat.

Why would he get rid of him when it works so well. How many people have I heard say that we can't get rid of Obama because then there would be Biden. The media is very forgiving to him too. While they report his...I don't even know what to call it...it's always good-natured. Now that I think of it, Romney (?) should go after him too. We'll see.

This fantasy is, for Democrats, the same longing for excitement and victory that the "brokered convention" was to many disappointed Republicans.

I have said for months that this option was definitely in the DEM's playbook but I can't imagine Biden in the SoS role. That move would be catastrophic. The bigger question is whether Hillary would go along with it as a loss could count her out in 2016. I can't see Biden quietly going away. They will have to promise him a very nice parting gift to get him on the bandwagon or have to result to a Chicago-style "offer" to make him see the light.

I was having deja vu all over again reading this post.

Whoop, there it is... Obama/Clinton 2012

I'm still where I was last August on this. Obama has to ask if he wants to win as badly as I think he does. The question is still, what will Hillary's answer be? No doubt she's an ambitious woman, but she's looked very tired lately.

Hillary only swaps if it means Joe has to start sleeping with Bill, too.

Are you suggesting that Clinton's interested in sleeping with Jill?

Just suggesting she's been interested in dumping Bill for years.

I think it's a factor; personality, policy and persona may be bigger, but resume is a part of it, and it's the easiest thing to change at this distance from the election.

If you don't think that the previous job of the candidate is important, why do you think that 8 out of the last 12 vice presidents not to resign in disgrace have won their party's nomination, with 5 out of 8 of those going on to win in the general? The odds are even stronger when you consider that three of the four non-nominees were precluded by age. In post-war America, only Dan Quayle has failed for a non-age related reason. That's some pretty stiff coincidence, if coincidence it is.

1) He may catch the cold then, but the replacment will be named later so as to prevent Romney from adjusting. The Dem. convention is a week after the Rep.

2) Hilary takes it to prevent a rival from getting a leg up on 2016.

Yeah...ok.

Experience does not guarantee competence. Hilary hardly seems to have been an exceptional lawyer, wife, first lady, senator or secretary of state - she's never worked well a day in her life. I don't think she would garner any additional votes, Hilary on the ticket would just make some of those voters a bit more enthused.

But I guess we'll have to talk about something for the next 112 days.

ctlaw. The date I gave is based on the Dems having 3 weeks to float the balloon of a replacement. Giving them time to figure out if Joe gets healthy or not. Plus it will be their attempt to steal as much time away from the gop convenation as they can

I still hold this to be a strong possibility. Depending on what Mrs. Clinton says about her future plans has proven a poor method of predicting her future actions.

Some extremely powerful reasons would include Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin, uber-fundraiser David Geffen and all the other influential Democrats who did not want to see Bill anywhere close to the WH in  2008.

I think she's savvy...and smells panic in the White House...she'll take a pass.
