1 Million Euros is still a lot of money
In Elie Wiesel's piece in the NYDaily News, he rehashes some of the things we already know about the Mavi Marmara incident. But then, deep into the piece, a new (at least to me) piece of the puzzle:
Now we also learn that some passengers appear to have received money for their participation. In other words, they were mercenaries. A million euros in cash were in their belongings. Two of the other men left video testaments as suicide bombers do before going on their missions.
Not quite the merry band of true believers. Of course, between the time they boarded the vessel and the time they were intercepted by Israeli commandos, that million euro purse has lost some value.

....but now there are fewer jihadis--er, peace activists--among whom that million-euro stash is to be divided, so it might still have been a worthwhile venture.

That's what I like about you, Scott. The glass is always half full.
