The Libertarian Podcast: Why There Should be a Free Market in Organ Transplants

This week’s episode of the Libertarian podcast is one of my favorites that Richard and I have ever recorded together … which may seem a little odd, as our topic is organ transplants. One of the weaknesses that many libertarians succumb to — and which Richard virtually always avoids — is talking about public policy purely in terms of economic rationality. It’s not that the god of the market isn’t impressive, but you have to share a lot of the presuppositions of devoted libertarians to fully appreciate those arguments some times. Here, Richard does, in my judgment, a masterful job of talking about the human costs of America’s misguided policy on organ transplants. Listen in and see if you agree:

The headline is silly. Why does anyone think that “why” has to be explained. Even if you are against it, the reasons in favor are pretty obvious.

    Now I’ll listen.
