Karl Rove Strikes Again
I’ve got it, I’ve got it. I have finally figured it out. This whole Ebola kerfuffle is the work — drum roll, please — of that consummate Machiavel: Karl Rove.
It could not be otherwise. Who else could have invented Dr. Thomas Frieden, Director of the CDC? Who could have instructed him to say that, if we sit on a bus next to someone who has been exposed to Ebola, we should not worry one whit, and then to add that, if you have been exposed to Ebola, you should not ride on a bus? Someone should investigate how Dr. Frieden wormed his way into the Obama administration. I myself smell a rat. It had to be the work of that mastermind of wickedness — yes, yes, I mean, the evil Karl Rove.
And Dr. Craig Spencer. My bet is that he is a Republican operative and that Karl persuaded him to go to West Africa and then to come back and parade himself all over the city of New York before being diagnosed with Ebola. But here is the kicker. He must also have told him to do what, as I recently reported on Ricochet, he did: which is to lie to the authorities and claim that he confined himself to his apartment when he was really out on the town. This was guaranteed to produce a triple whammy. First, we learn that someone in Manhattan has come down with Ebola. Then, we hear that he took the A train. And later we learn that he lied about the whole thing.
And Kaci Hickox. Where did Karl find this dame? She, too, went to West Africa. Then, when quarantined in New Jersey on her return, she raised holy hell — which caused Chris Christie to ship her home to Maine, where she now asserts, she will not honor the state’s imposition of a quarantine. You see, from her perspective, her constitutional rights are at stake. No one, she asserts, has a right to expect that someone who has been exposed to a horrid, highly contagious disease avoid public contact.
And it gets better. Apparently, Karl got a hot-shot lawyer who is a family friend of Barack Obama to take on Kaci’s case. I can see the headlines now: “Your guts turn to mush, and you bleed from every orificie, but Kaci and Barack… they do not give a damn!” When Karl got Central Casting to come up with Kaci or had Ron Klain contact them on his behalf, he really scored a coup. She is one talented actress — with one hell of a future.
Now, you may think that this is wild. But consider this. Karl somehow got Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic Governor of New York on board, and he did the same with Pat Quinn of Illinois and Jerry Brown of California, Democrats both.
I read in the press that Americans are panicking and should calm down. And I do agree that there are those out there who are panicking. As far as I can tell, every Democrat up for re-election seems now to be distancing himself from this President. Do they think that he has Ebola?
Where did Karl find these people? Rob Long… you know an actor or two. Could you have…? I dare not think the thought. Say, my friend, say that it is not so.
There is, to be sure, one thing that I simply do not understand. How did Karl Rove get the President to stake his reputation on a transparently stupid and irresponsible policy? The man is a veritable magician.

It is striking how incompetent President Obama is as a “decider.”
Even giving him the benefit of the benefit’s doubt… that man is no executive.
When faced with a modicum of responsibility he routinely backs himself into corners unnecessarily. Corners which would lead Pompey Magnus to ask those eternal questions: “Really? Are you trying to fail?”
Everyone knows Karl Rove is just a puppet of the Koch brothers…
Well, this makes perfect sense.
Couldn’t understand how someone as smart as Obama and the members of his administration could have mangled this. After all, they are the ones that always seem to support the notion that perception is more important then the truth. This should have been a natural for them.
Then enter the puppet master and everyone is bumping into walls attempting to flee, It would be funny if it didn’t exemplify the whole administrations fecklessness in all they do. None are so adept at taking a small controllable problem and blowing it out of all proportion by failure to deal with it. You reap what you sow….
I wasn’t aware Rove did so much. But that whole using a weather-machine to create Katrina thing, that was all Cheney, right?
That Stanford doctor lives like a mile from my house. Guess I won’t be bowling or running out for soup for a few weeks.
Have Karl Rove fetch your soup and test it for Ebola. If he dies, ah, celebrate.
Far be it from me to defend this administration, but…
I’m sure we’re all familiar with Hanlon’s Razor: “Never attribute to malice that which may be adequately explained by incompetence.” I propose what you might call Bush’s Corollary (after it’s most well known beneficiary): “Never attribute to incompetence that which may be adequately explained by inarticulation.”
In this case, I think Ace of Spades (certainly no apologist for the administration) is right about what Friedan meant, which is simply “Don’t be afraid to ride the bus.” The chances of infection are virtually nil when you take into account the statistical improbability of running into an infected person.
Friedan’s second statement then makes perfect sense when you consider that an infected person choosing to ride the bus has suddenly drastically changed the equation for everyone else on that particular bus.
There is so much else to shake our heads in disgust over, that I don’t think giving him the benefit of a doubt on this one item is conceding too much.
