Jonah Goldberg: Big in Iran!
During my recent trips to Iran, I bought some books, because they’re the very best kind of souvenir. My favorite one, by far, is The Encyclopedia of Jews and Zionism, which I found at Tehran’s museum of torture. As you can see from the middle foldout, it features a list of powerful Jews (since lists of Jews always lead to good things). It’s fascinating to see, first, who made the cut (the Renegade Jew is among them), and second, that they have no idea what shabbos goy means, but still feel confident enough to throw that term around.
Oh, and yes: Sometimes, when they suspect someone might be gay, they just slap the word “homo” across his face.
Obviously, this is a gem, but I would suggest Mr. Goldberg send an updated picture to the regime of the Islamic Republic, as this one does not do him justice:
Published in General
But does the book include “known Jew” Jon Gabriel?
The irony of your visit to Iran and purchasing this book at the museum of torture.
What does the question mark and Star of David over Jeff Immelt signify?
It means “suspected Jew”.
I think what is most fearsome to me is that Iran is so infatuated with this baseless hatred they feel compelled to include people they even suspect of being Jewish.
How are books like this received in Iran?
Do most Iranians look at this as something authoritative that they respect and forms a foundation for their society?
Or do they view it as just the rantings of their rulers not to be taken seriously?
Is there a way to sign up for this roll of honor or do I have to wait to be nominated?
I believe there is a committee involved…
I suppose it is simply stating the obvious to say that this has all the earmarks of NAZI Germany. It is absolutely chilling that so many years after the distruction of that nightmare that this Iranian regime has any legitimacy in the world, and, worse, that some of it comes from our own president.
For one who almost always has something to say, I’m speechless. Pathetic.
What is so fascinating is that these are incredibly successful, intelligent, philanthropic people who benefit mankind (for the most part). Do they not see the irony? Oh sorry–I forgot about how these are the Jews who want to take over the world. Pardon my sarcasm.
What a delightful satire you’ve posted, Annika!
…
Wait. …
You mean it’s for real?!?
Some people need the space between their ears cleaned out with detergent.
I think Jonah was 12 when that picture was taken.
Second, Roger Ailes would be shocked to find out he’s Jewish.
Third, these are Obama’s “moderates” he wants to bring into the “world community.” Remember that above all else.
Pre-cise-ly
Shabbos goy? Yeah, I’ve done that.
I prefer the term “groovy goy” though.
Is that Alan Bergman the lyricist?
What is the museum of torture? Can you give us some tidbits about it?
And what does Shabbos goy mean?
It is a term describing a non-Jew who performs one of the 39 forbidden forms of work during shabbat. Like sometimes in a (reform) synagogue you would have a non-Jew push the button in the elevator on Shabbat, assuming there is one, or mothers would have a non-Jew push the stroller when she needs to take the kids to synagogue. Goy means “non-Jew”.
Did the person who sold you this book recognize you as a Jew? There was no hesitation to deal with a Jew, particularly to sell a book you obviously wouldn’t agree with?
Also, which super-Jew was credited with training the laser-equipped attack dolphins?
on a light note: so if you are going to open your bagel shop on Shabbos you hire goy, yes? (And make sure they deliver.)
But overall: What EJ said.
It is a museum dedicated to those jailed under the Shah, and ironically the guide said that most of the prison guards ran off to Israel to become Mossad-agents…. The inspiring pictures are from that tour, a few months ago.
Ha, well…technically you wouldn’t get a kosher certificate if you were open on shabbos :)
Methinks this will not end well. A state with this level of bile against Israel and Jews plus an A-bomb is not a good mix. I guess Obama figures that Pakistan hasn’t nuked Israel yet so it’s all good.
Pakistan is too busy worrying about India to worry about Israel.
Well, that was fast.
Indeed.
;>)
In other words, not Jew but Jew-ish.
So,how do you say “Sieg Heil!”, “Judenrein”, and “Arbeit Macht Frei” in Farsi?
Oh wait…With books like that.
Annika,
Just in case you didn’t think they were total raving lunatics.
AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some day.
Regards,
Jim
Ahem… that would be me, the laser shabbos goy.
As a college student, early 70s, my major advisor had been with the State Dept., in Teheran (he spoke fluent Farsi, as well as French and Swedish, native English of course). He related to me his visit to an Iranian village of 20,000 inhabitants; the village doctor of 20 years + service to the community was discovered to be a Jew, subsequently murdered, his body cut up into pieces and then scattered about the town.
At the time I heard this, I was twenty years old, with a bright, shiny midwestern Lutheran parochial world view, and it was beyond my ability to even conceive of it, yet alone try to “understand” (can anyone?). I never forgot the story, and, flash forward 44 years, with all that has happened in the world since, and it is making a horrible kind of sense, in the context “their” world view; scapegoating, over-and-against the “other”, etc.
I still cling to my 20 year old world view, however. And I hope/pray for a better future. I am in Stockholm in July. Hope to see you, Annika!
