I've recently discovered the Ricochet archive and have been working my way through the earliest ones to assuage my Ricochet withdrawal once a week.  I'd like to know whose idea Ricochet was, how the present cast of characters evolved and what became of Mark Steyn's regular gig on the show?  If you'd like to bring in a bit more money, I'd suggest a premium podcast where a cocktail replaces the coffee and a single guest is invited...a person prominent in some important area of the culture or that swamp (aka politics).

Blue Yeti: Mark is one of the busier guys on the planet and we just couldn't consistently mesh his schedule with ours. As for your other idea, we kind of already do that show --it's called Uncommon Knowledge. I do like the booze angle though. One of these days, I'll try spiking Robinson's coffee before we start shooting.

Peter Robinson and Rob Long began kicking around an idea like Ricochet in mid 2007, and it went through a series of rapid changes from October 2008 to May 2009.

Our Contributors were recruited based on a combination of reputation, personal relationships, and a lot of sniffing around.  It's a never-ending but fun and rewarding process.

Tom Lindholtz: I like my answer better.

ThePullmanns: Me, too. But accurate?

Tom Lindholtz: In a more serious vein, then; How did a Presidential speech writer and a barroom comedy writer happen to cross paths in order that this wonderful thing might have been conceived?

Ricochet is the bastard child conceived on an NRO cruise one night when "The Corner" drank 1 too many Singapore Slings.

Blue Yeti: As the story has been told to me (often in a bar), you're not too far off.

Yeah...ok.: Thanks. I was just trolling for votes to boost my intel ranking. Since I have no knowledge about anything of substance I can only answer questions about things that can't be confirmed. I thought the podcasts are just recordings of late night cruise discussions.

Ricochet sprang, fully formed, from the head of William F. Buckley, Jr.
