We hear about aging nuclear arsenals, and how Russia's was a mess, but I'm curious how, for lack of a better term, shelf stable nuclear weapons are.  Can they sit around?  Will they degrade?  Do they require maintenance?  What maintenance do nuclear weapons actually need?

At the very least, there is the problem of corrosion: of parts, of framework and cases, (in the case of missiles) in the electronics and silos, etc.
