Mark Steyn raised a hypthetical I found of interest, positing that if China attacked Taiwan, the US would be funding both sides of the war --  "...the home team, via the Pentagon budget, and the Chinese military, through the interest payments on the debt. (We’ll be bankrolling the entire People’s Liberation Army by some point this decade.)"

My guess is that we would be extremely hesitant to do anything -- but  -- what if ?  Assuming no mutual assured destruction scenario, what might this look like ?
