Where You're From, Part I
Good news! Monaco, Papua New Guinea and French Guyana have risen into the ranks of the places that send us visitors (recall this discussion from December), although Turkmenistan, North Korea, and Mali remain stubborn hold-outs.
But what about within the U.S.? When we sort the states by the visitors they send us, it's no surprise: the biggest states rank at the top:

D.C. sends us far and away the most visitors per capita, and it's only because of the D.C. suburbs that Virginia ranks #2. If you proceed through the rest of top 13, only North Dakota leans conservative. Not exactly the centers of rock-ribbed, red meat conservatism you might expect.
That led us to take a more detailed look into the data. The Logo will discuss our findings later this weekend.

I've been thinking about why this thing is so addictive. Here's what I come up with: It's the only experience one can have of being engaged in a half-dozen or more conversations simultaneously. One throws out one's bait on each post and then bounces from thread to thread to see if one has hooked anything.
I know of nothing else like it online. You guys have done your work well, damn you.

An old professor once told me everything north of the Occoquan river should be referred to as "occupied Virginia" just because they are more dense up there doesn't mean they are more conservative but I am sure y'all know that already.

In these places, maybe the literate part of the population is more literate than the national average. Just a guess. In Minnesota and North Dakota you certainly have a few months each year to curl up with a copy of the Federalist Papers, or with Rules for Radicals in the more troubled and misguided households.

I'd love to be wrong, but I'm guessing I'm the only Ricochet member in Estonia. As a Minnesota native, I credit some good conservative radio stations (I'm not sure how well they're doing these days) for encouraging dissent against the leftist hordes. They certainly helped me see the light after college. Minnesotans like to keep things balanced, too (see also: Tim Pawlenty).

Highlands Ranch is Mission Viejo of the Rockies with the same results, aesthetically and politically. And the same is happening up and down the Front Range. It's a sign but not a good one....

It's not just the Front Range. A blue vein runs along I-70 with branches off to Aspen and Telluride. That still leaves a lot of great territory worth more, to my taste, per square mile than anything found in the the more fashionable quarters. That having been said, I admit my weakness. Chief Niwot was correct. Go CU.

Love this! And it's so true. Northern Virginia is, in many ways, the North. (I'm a native NoVA'n.) The rest of the state is, by and large, the South. I went to college in Williamsburg, in Tidewater VA--a prestigious school that is, sadly, hardly a bastion of conservatism anymore--and one of my history professors, a native VA Piedmonter, *still* referred to the Civil War as the War of Northern Aggression. (And drank bourbon in his coffee during class. But that's another thread....)
NoVA is "Metro DC," in every sense of that expression.

England: #26
Scotland would be about half the level as Wyoming. We had 135 unique visitors from Glasgow during the first few months of this year.
Burkina Faso, only 11.

I can't tell you about Members (our location data on Members is spotty -- it's only what people self-report). But we did have 60 unique visitors from Estonia during the comparable period. (FWIW, we work with a very fine contract developer in Tallinn.)
