Slicker "Show More" links
Among other things, I just rolled out a new implementation of the post length cutoff and the "Show more" link that you see on the Feeds. This one uses a bit of a gradient, and cuts the post off at a more predictable length. (The former one was based on word counts, and did not take images or other space-hogging elements into account. I also was not very happy with the algorithm it used to count the words and split the text.)
In other news, we are slowly making some changes along the way that will support a long-term goal of mine to make the site completely responsive-- that is, to make the layout flexible and have the site itself adjust to any size display, automatically, without necessarily needing to go to a mobile version of the site. I'm also going to try to fix some of the annoying bugs that have cropped up over the last few months as we changed various parts of the site.

Re: Slicker "Show More" links
Yo BSA, thanks for all your efforts! (That explains the couple of 503s before.)
Would it be possible to reduce the size of the 'show more' bar and gradient on the Contributor Feed comment box thingy? It takes up so much of the comment it can be hard to get a sense of what is there.

Re: Slicker "Show More" links
I am not sure I like the fuzzy bottom of the new Show More thingy. Change is hard... But I will like it completely if it can be used to allow me to see everything on my profile page -- all the people I am following, most importantly! -- but also the conversations I am following etc. And if it could be made clear whether my information is public or private, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

Re: Slicker "Show More" links
Great improvement, Busy. Thanks. It is much better. I don't like too much text per post on the feeds and could even recommend fewer lines than now. But, the look of the pages is better and definitely handles the pictures better.
Kudos.

BSA, I was just admiring this new "show more" function. I like it! I hope it works on the mighty iPad.

A post about the new Show More thingy without the new Show More thingy in the post.
You could have at least tried....

Re: Slicker "Show More" links
I enjoy Ricochet so much, so I really appreciate your behind the scenes work. I, too, am not a fan of the gradient. But it is a matter of poor eye sight more than a technical issue.
Thanks again for making this a fun place to hang.

Re: Slicker "Show More" links
Thanks for the comments! We'll try to make adjustments if necessary, but we can't please everyone.
[UPDATE: I've tweaked the styles slightly, to make the "Show more" link take less space on the sidebar, and use a slightly smaller gradient. You may not notice the changes for a while; your browser might be caching the old version of the stylesheet.]
Next on my list is, indeed, the avatar problems and the checkboxes on your profile to control the public/private visibility of the applicable sections.

Re: Slicker "Show More" links
Apologies to IE9 users-- I failed to test the fading on this browser, and as a result you had an ugly fade to black effect instead. I've now fixed the effect for your browser.
Anyone else seeing something other than the text fading away at the bottom of the cut-off post, just above the Show More link? Let me know at support@ricochet.com. Thanks!

The above was from the mobile site. This is from an iPad browsing the desktop version of the site.
