Further Upgrade Headaches

Many apologies up front.
We're still finding bugs after our software upgrade last week. After we hit several of them, we tried reverting to the previous version of the software, but that introduced other bugs, most notably & nbsp; codes all over. So we don't really have a viable backwards "downgrade" path, and we'll have to keep the latest version of the software and work through the bugs one by one.
We wanted to let our membership know what is going on. So here is the current list of major bugs we've found:
- Users cannot upload a new avatar.
- Some users cannot edit anything on their Profile except their password. When they change their password, the system shows an error, though it does still save the new password.
- Login problems. These have partially been fixed, but some issues remain.
- After logging in, you are redirected to the home page rather than the page last visited.
- You may see & nbsp; codes in your comment when you edit it. Ignore them for now, or replace them with spaces if they force your comment to go over the word limit.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
Yeah. I have to log in every time I visit. But at least I'm not capriciously booted off any longer. We'll see for sure when I try to post this comment.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
Thanks BSA, I was literally just wondering how things are going. I have great faith that one day soon I will be kept logged in on this computer. Go you!

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
Thanks for the update. The login problem seems to be better lately.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
It is measure of how much the members respect and value "our site" that there has been little or no ill-tempered sniping about the the glitches over the last couple of weeks. Maybe it's because Ricochet members are intelligent and mature enough to know that this endeavor is freakishly complicated. Or maybe a CoC addendum: Thou shall not throw brickbats at the BSA?

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
I'll kinda miss that little &nsbsp; bug when it's gone.
My login problems have mostly disappeared (no more of that being logged out while I'm trying to post a comment and then maybe not being able to log in again).
Occasionally, Ricochet still signs me out for no reason, but fortunately no longer when I'm in flagrante comment. And I now I can always sign right back in.
Thanks, BSA, for all you do.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
Um...why can't I post photographs on the member feed? The world really, really needs to see Rob Long and Mrs. Kenneth. And the tragic NR cruise zombie attack upon Jonah Goldberg.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
I can only post comments 20% of the ime. I'm logged in and can create a comments but the 'Post Comment' button does nothing. VERY frustrating.
Something about Ricochet not being an object. On 2 separate machines.
Now that I've bothered to enter this comment, let's see if it gets published.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
Woohoo! It took it!
I had the problem at lunch, but maybe it's gone. Gonna try tomorrow.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
I'm not sure whether it was always this way, as I just joined, but ricochet does not seem to play well at all with Webkit-based browsers.

I can't speak for anyone else on Rico but I've worked both sides of upgrades and I feel BSA's pain. It isn't fun.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
Sorry about that. Can you be more specific about the problems you see?

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
This has been a known issue since before the upgrade, and it's on my list of bugs. Again, apologies.

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
Busy System Admin:
I believe the issue listed above has now been fixed, based on a few preliminary tests. Please report if you still cannot update your account information. Thanks!

Oh...I thought maybe it was a policy thing, to keep us from putting up naughty pitchas.

Our editors can take down naughty pictures. We're relying on that mechanism for the time being.
I am happy to announce that users can now upload photos to their conversations! Keep it clean... ;-]

Re: Further Upgrade Headaches
Well, thank you, but it's really just restoring a baseline of functionality. The state of the login problem last week was simply unacceptable. Sorry you had to live through it!

I'm a simple soul. Not having to log in every time I check the site (which one must do to access Member Feed and Conversations I'm Following) gives me a few extra seconds, or perhaps a whole minute, every day, which could be as much as six extra hours a year. What to do, what to do? It will probably involve looking at birds.
