Huge Scoop from The Hill: Michele Bachmann Is a Christian

Peter Sullivan of The Hill has rocked the Beltway with a shocker of a story:

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) calls in an interview for converting as many people as possible to Christianity because Jesus is “coming soon.”

The 2012 Republican presidential candidate made the comments in a radio interview last week with Tony Perkins, president of the conservative Family Research Council, after both Bachmann and Perkins went on a tour of Israel. The website Right Wing Watch posted audio of the interview.

“We recognize the shortness of the hour,” Bachmann says. “And that’s why we as a remnant want to be faithful in these days and do what it is that the Holy Spirit is speaking to each one of us, to be faithful in the Kingdom and to help bring in as many as we can — even among the Jews — share Jesus Christ with everyone that we possibly can because, again, he’s coming soon.”

A private citizen wants to convert people to her faith? What’s next — Pope Francis celebrating a Catholic Mass?

Inspired by Sullivan’s scoop, I investigated Bachmann’s bizarre opinions further. Apparently, she got this whole conversion idea from a popular Christian book called The Bible. This is a direct quote from the main character, Jesus:

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Okay, so that explains the conversion thing, but what about the outlandish claim that this Jesus fellow is coming soon? Though open to interpretation, Jesus Himself may have obliquely referred to such a thing in this following quote:

“Look, I am coming soon!”

After exhaustive research, I found out that this book also talks about the “shortness of the hour,” the “remnant,” the “Holy Spirit,” and the “Kingdom.” Looks like Sullivan’s reporting checks out: Michele Bachmann is a Christian.

I hope her pastor doesn’t find out.

And I think we can also say Peter Sullivan hasn’t been inside a Church ( especially an evangelical one ) for anything but funerals and weddings.

So The Hill is now getting their material from Right Wing Watch (People for the American Way)?  Am I wrong, or is this somewhat more significant than Bachman’s views?  Anybody see anything from Ricochet in The Hill recently?  From Power Line?  From National Review Online?  From American Spectator?

I don’t know anything about the person called Rabbi Yitzhak Kaduri, but I read recently he lived to be 108 and in his final year of life, had many dreams and visions of the Messiah – he wrote on a piece of paper the words Yeshuah is his name and he is coming soon.

No one knows the day or the hour, but the Bible says your old men will dream dreams and see visions – In the age of political correctness, and increased persecution of Christians and Jews, I applaud her boldness.

One more thing – I am a property manager and a vacation home that I manage for the owners who live in Dallas give me each year a Christmas ornament painted by George W. Bush – the proceeds support the goals of the Bush Library. Each year he has painted birds – they’re beautiful. This year he painted the Lamb of God.

What’s all this about “Jesus is coming?”  Of course he is. I have an appointment to meet him in his office to go over his bid proposal.

Why does the fact that my construction guy is coming matter to the press?

The expectation of Jesus’ Second Coming is a staple of evangelicalism since William Miller introduced the idea that Jesus would return in 1843.  Several denominations were birthed due to this idea, with any claiming Adventism, such as the Seventh-Day Adventists, the Jehovah’s Witnesses (who finally got out of predicting Jesus’ arrival date), and more than a few television preachers whose messages in part or in whole are frantically predicting Jesus’ immanent return while making a living doing so.  Hal Lindsey anyone?  The van Impe’s?  Pastor John Hagee?

There are conferences scheduled in large auditoriums and arenas where the geo-political circumstances are examined minutely in an attempt to determine the exact moment to prepare for.

Anyone who has bought into this milieu won’t be surprised at what Michelle stated.  Michelle wants you to go to heaven, which should be counted in her favor.  She is not any one’s enemy regarding this.

We can’t go to heaven unless we die. It would be better if she wanted us to stay alive and living without fear.

There, I fixed it to reflect what I suspect is her belief. We shouldn’t pretend that the belief’s obvious conclusion is that she either wants people dead or living in fear, that’s not an argument worthy of Ricochet. I’ve never understood the aversion to people who literally believe that death without a relationship with God means eternal separation from Him so they want to try and bring as many people as they can to that kind of relationship out of concern for people. How big of an a-hole would someone have to be to have that belief, look at other people and think…”meh, not worth it”?

Marci- when the Spirit prompts someone to speak, or paint a picture, or write a poem, to start a soup kitchen, or risk life and limb hosting a church in a country where Christians are criminals, or whatever the gift is, you do it – it can be spoken out of love, and if ignored, that’s ok too – But the Great Commission means we are Jesus’ eyes, ears, mouth here on earth and to be silent is not an option – some are not comfortable speaking and that’s ok too. You’re right – then you dust off the sandals and move on – but He spoke first.

Actual, evangelical Christianity, the MSM cannot handle. They get the vapors.

Anti-American, “social justice” churchin’ like the kind the Obamas experienced their whole lives? They yawn, if they even notice.

Ted Cruz can add this to his growing list of reasons why the public doesn’t trust the MSM.

A few years ago I attended a tax protest on steps of Minnesota State Capitol when Michelle was a state rep.  I noticed this very good looking woman standing next to me and applauding Jason Lewis, the organizer. Lewis was also a talented radio host who filled in for Rush Limbaugh.

All I knew about Michelle Bachmann was what I just mentioned. Really good looking. Oh and she was chatty and humorous. We introduced ourselves. I asked her what she did for a living, and learned she was a Republican representative. I asked her how in hell she was elected in our depressing blue state. She laughed and said it wasn’t easy; one voter at a time etc.

She went on of course to be the Michelle Bachmann. I like her, her politics and her brains. Oh, and did I mention? She’s really good looking.

I suspect that this will come as a shock but I don’t personally know anybody who won’t die.  In fact I find that there are people I miss very much such as my parents and my younger brother who I won’t get to see again unless I die.

As for fear, what can I tell you?  Either you are afraid or you are not.

Don’t mean to keep pouring salt…. but my childhood best friend came from a good upbringing, had a baby out of wedlock, dropped out of school, got hooked on pot, was homeless at one point living under a bridge. Her son grew up to become a drug addict, in and out of federal prison, got a girl pregnant, etc. Police knocked on her door and searched, found pot and said jail or 12-step.

In 12-step, she cleaned up, found a Christian life through someone opening their mouth, raised her grandson, met her husband, but could not reach her son.   A male counselor shared his faith as part of volunteer prison counsel, her son cleaned up his life and married – remains clean.

My friend counsels women in federal prison, shares her faith and follows up after they are released. She drives far away, goes through maximum security, faces angry, despondent women, has to be de-liced upon leaving, sprayed head to toe with nothing on (she says all pride goes out the window), and despite painful scoliosis, continues to mentor and give hope – many success stories thanks to her.

Billy Graham shared his faith with George Bush at Kennebunkport – it planted a seed, but his drinking continued – friends in Midland, TX invited him to a Bible study – stopped drinking, became a Christian – Bush even stated he shared his faith with the leader of China – lives can be changed if you have courage and speak. God does the rest.

When Michelle Bachman has to be deloused after a day of evangelizing, maybe I’ll be a little more impressed? (Sorry—but your friend sounds wonderful: good for her!)

So…unless one’s evangelizing in a third world country don’t bother? I feel like I’m missing something. Billy Graham (mentioned above) as far as I know devoted his life to evangelizing his own countrymen (and a few had lice I guess) and as recently as 2013 said he believed Jesus was returning soon and nobody flipped their lids over it. I’d be willing to bet he and Mrs Bachman aren’t too different theologically speaking. She hasn’t been on my radar for quite a while now, but why all the disdain from everybody all of a sudden?

When someone offers you the best that they think that they know, you are not required to accept it but you might have the humility to think good of that person.  It is what you hope for when you are on call as a chaplain, is it not?

That strikes me as the kind of self-righteous judgmentalism that really turns a lot of people (or at least me) off about certain (usually leftwing-ish) Christians –  And I’m not talking about Bachman.
