Democrats Shuffle Their Deck of Race Cards
Faced with a deeply unpopular President and a potential GOP wave, Democrats are digging deep to motivate their lackadaisical base. As always, the most prominent play is the race card.
In North Carolina, fans of incumbent Senator Kay Hagan are passing out disturbing fliers in African-American neighborhoods. “Kay Hagan Doesn’t WIN! Obama’s IMPEACHMENT Will Begin! Vote in 2014” says the text, which is printed over a photo of a white crowd lynching a black man.
The local chapter of the NAACP doesn’t see a problem with the flier. President of the Fayetteville chapter, James Buxton, told the Observer, “That’s what the community feels. That if the Senate is taken over by the Republicans, and it remains the Republicans (in the majority) in the House of Representatives, they’re going to impeach him.”
County Republican Party Chairwoman Linda Devore saw things a little differently, saying, “I think it’s unfortunate to use this kind of emotion as a means to getting people out to vote. It’s bad information.”
The Fayetteville police are looking into the matter as “hate materials,” and expect federal authorities to be involved as they view the flier as an implied threat against the president.
I’m sure Attorney General Eric Holder will get right on that.
If conservatives want to set the record straight, the GOP should reprint the lynching photo with the headline, “Remember When North Carolina Was Run by White Democrats? Vote Republican!”
Meanwhile, Georgia’s Democratic Party is warning voters not to elect white people or it’ll be Ferguson all over again.
Opening with a photo of innocent children, the flier warns “If You Want To Prevent another Ferguson In Their Future… VOTE” Inside, the copy reads in part:
Ferguson, Missouri’s population is 67% African-American. But the city’s Mayor, 5 of its 6 city council members, and 94% of its police force are white.
What are we going to do about it?
If we want a better, safer future for our children, it’s up to us to vote for change.
Left unmentioned is that the most prominent Democrat running in Georgia is pasty Senate hopeful Michelle Nunn.
It’s curious that Democrats are attempting to make Ferguson a partisan issue, considering which party holds the region. Missouri Governor Jay Nixon is a Democrat, as is Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster.
St. Louis County is dominated by Democrats. County Executive Charlie Dooley and Prosecuting Attorney Robert P. McCulloch are both Dems, along with five of the seven members on the County Council. District 1, which includes the city of Ferguson, is represented by Democrat Councilperson Hazel Erby.
The city itself is run by an officially non-partisan council, so party registration details are hard to come by. The only affiliation noted online is that Ferguson’s mayor is registered as a Republican and two of the six city council members are outspoken Democrats.
This inconvenient fact is the reason that the press highlighted race over party in Ferguson. If Dems choose to make the story partisan, the GOP must remind voters that the unrest in Missouri is primarily Democrat vs. Democrat.

I agree with the typical liberal racial division. The NAACP guy also said he didn’t think it was racist, just partisan. If that doesn’t tell you something right there…. Hagan’s lead has gotten less as the election gets closer. I think turnout matters and the makers of these flyers know they need tournout. Talk about intimidation. Voter ID can’t touch this in the intimidation factor.
That was true until the last couple of days. If you click on the graph on the Real Clear Politics page, Hagan has been creeping up and Tillis creeping down: Hagan +.07 to Hagan +2.0. No idea why.
I had a strong zap of Eeyore today on another post. I can’t remember which one, but one of the Ricoteers said that if So-and-So didn’t win without a run-off, then this person would likely sit out the run-off – Just to Show ’em! Let it crash so we can rebuild… [*Sigh*]
I’ve heard that “rebuild” since the Perot days. That was a long time ago. Gotta work with what you’ve got. I still say it’s a turnout driven election and the target audience for that flyer in Fayetteville isn’t looking good for a large turnout.
I’m giving “Hagan-Tillis turnout” bellwether status. If Tillis pulls it out, I plan to attribute it to “cranky conservatives who won’t respond to polling.” If Hagan goes any higher than projections, I will attribute it to “Da Youts wit no landlines” being a dispiritingly under-represented voting group.
Sabato’s Crystal Ball gives it a “Leans Dem.” At least it’s not a “Likely Dem.”
Using a photo of a lynching for personal gain is just sick.
That is what they will do to hold on to power. The Democrats will send this country into a race war if that is what it takes to hold the Senate.
I agree with Casey. The picture is sick. Would Repubicans do differently if the conditions “warranted”? I wouldn’t bet against it.
One thing… could the poster be right? Will Republicans go for impeachment if they win? That would be not quite as sick but a whole lot stupider than the poster. It will confirm a race war to people looking for a race war. It will give us a new president possibly even worse than we have now. And it would be pointless since pretty much all presidents since WWII are worthy on constitutional grounds of impeachment. Why particularly single out this one? The problems of super government will not be solved by impeaching presidents. I hope Republicans are not so stupid as to not understand that.
But I wouldn’t bet on it.
The fact that these sorts of outrages occur in every election cycle, and always and everywhere, speaks more loudly and more clearly than anything else to the true nature and character of the Democrat Party leadership. This is not the product of some low level local party operatives, this is implicit institutionalized party policy. The most effective counter to images like these is the truth that these events (lynchings and other racially motivated violence against blacks) occurred in and were largely limited to a geographic region over which the Democrat Party exercised unassailable political control. Here’s the ultimate sad truth: if you are an African American today, the Democrat Party OWNS you.
