Court: Nuns Must Provide Contraception under ObamaCare
As he often does, Josh Treviño says it all:
Published in Law, Religion & Philosophy
Brilliant.
The fact that they continued with this case and the Tenth ruled in favor of the government is insane. It also shows you the real respect the Left gives the Supreme Court when the decision does not go their way. What is their problem anyway will the country fall and civilization roll up if some nuns(!) aren’t forced to participate in contraception coverage? The left is only after power, tolerance is just a word they use to sound reasonable from time to time but they don’t know what it means…
You know, you might as well wake up expecting bad news. We’re going to get it every day for a long long time.
The President has earned his middle name; may it be used loudly and often.
Peter, in the comments to your earlier post I used a great many more words to express the same sentiment far less eloquently than Mr. Treviño. He is indeed a treasure.
What have the leading presidential candidates had to say about this? (I’m referring to Clinton and Trump.)
The thing about nationalized healthcare is that it is not “insurance,” but redistribution. They need everyone to pay for female contraceptives, including men, because that is redistribution to one of their prime constituencies. They need for everyone to have to share the cost of “pre-existing conditions” because the sick and the old are two more Progressive constituencies. It’s not just power, it’s buying the votes to keep the power.
That’s putting the best possible construction on their motives.
If that was a good construction, I would hate to see a bad one, but doubt it would fit within the CoC. I said nothing good about them.
No, you didn’t say anything good about them, but I think they’re doing it mainly because it’s the wrong thing to do.
Taking glee in sticking it to those they perceive as enemies? I would not be surprised if there were an element of that in there. Suing over and over again to drain their “enemies” of funds, while they pay for the suits with taxpayer money? I can believe that.
I completely agree. They’re buying their long-seeked-for “permanent majority” one single interest group at a time.
Which wouldn’t be a problem if the biggest interest group of all, people who just want to be left the [CoC] alone, had a party to represent them. That the GOP powers-that-be represent a number of the same interest groups that finance and power the Dems is more than a crying shame. It’s the end of truly representative democracy in this country (and probably the world, for a long time to come).
How’re real estate prices in Belize these days? I can work remotely 90% of the time, as long as I’m near an airport…
Yow. Looks a little high for my taste.
It’s almost as if contraception is the new sacrament, and all other old forms of reverence have to be humbled.
Because no one needs birth control like the Sisters of the Poor? Those wild and crazy nuns! I mean, it’s not like they’re the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, I mean, I’d worry about those girls…
Here’s an e-mail I wrote in April 2004:

Yes! It’s good that people who have a wider readership than mine are making this point.

BTW, does anybody know if I get access to the HTML editor if I upgrade my membership, so I can do nested quotes and fix the ordered lists that Ricochet messes up?
No, just doing it because it’s wrong, and because it’s so erotically stimulating to make other people obey.
I don’t know about that, but I could certainly teach you a few tricks. Of course, if you go down to the bottom menu and click on “KB” you may see some articles on quoting in the Knowledge Base that covers it.
There’s a passage from Allan Bloom’s Closing of the American Mind — well, there are several — but this one long ago burned itself into my memory.
It seems ever more apropos than when Bloom wrote it nearly 30 years ago:
–from chapter “Nietzscheanization of the Left or Vice Versa. Read the whole chapter here.
I guess Obama drew a red line for the nuns and they crossed it. He couldn’t back down to them when he had already backed down to Assad. You know, those Little Sisters might actually have weapons of mass destruction. The mistake the Sisters made was that they violated the Left’s sexual ethics – chastity – instead of just gasing people.
They do, in the view of the progressives behind this ukase.
Those weapons are faith, piety, and belief in something greater than the state.
On the bright side, all nuns 40 and over now qualify for free prostate exams under their Obamacare policy.
As funny as your comment is, you raise a striking point related to the Kevin Williams/WHINOS thing. Where are the Republican leaders blasting this? Why are we not seeing Boehner, McConnell, JEB, Rubio, Cruz, Walker (do I need to keep going?) blasting this administration for their anti-Catholic, anti-religious liberty policy and subsequent pursuit of this case? We all know damned well that the Left would be all over this it was the other way around.
Contraception is the sacrament of the left and when it doesn’t work Planned Parenthood is there to recycle the parts. Because parts is parts and No Child Left Behind unless we turn them into a McNugget first because, science.
There is no inconsistency. Obama has an affinity for our enemies abroad because he believes they are right to think us racist, imperialist, insufficiently diverse scum. The real enemy is the Western culture that produced the monster that is America and especially the religious institutions and traditions that spawned it. Kissing up to Iran and crushing nuns are part and parcel of the same mindset.
Birth control for nuns is only a skirmish. As long as there are nuns, an Obamist state must continue to push. I can easily see Obamist regulators moving to forbid nuns from baking the bread used in communion wafers unless they have also made a proportional volume of gay wedding cakes or penis-shaped cupcakes for new national holidays.
A small, weakened, withdrawn, isolated America with a stagnant but less gap-plagued economy and a monolithic culture enforced by the rule of a permanent bureaucratic elite is what he meant by “Hope and Change.”
Also, instead of whining about the WHINOS, maybe Republican leaders should be loudly opposing Obama on this item, which also might help distinguish themselves from Trump in an important way (I hope).
Vae Victis: “woe to the conquered”. ‘Nuff said.
How do you say “Nuff said” in Latin?

This just came out this morning or late last night. I’ve heard Boehner defending the Little Sisters before. I think all the presidential candidates are on record supporting religious liberty. I think you’re being unfair right now. How about giving them a little chance before you criticize them, or you are just proving Kevin Willimson right?
