Comedian Bill Maher Says He’ll Take Cruz Over Trump, It’s a No-Brainer
When given the choice between a President Donald Trump and President Ted Cruz, Comedian Bill Maher says the choice is easy — he would pick Cruz. On the HBO show “Real Time with Bill Maher,” he first took a dig at the current Democratic frontrunner, Hillary Clinton. He said she is not a sure thing because “You need a fall back between suicide and Canada.”
He told the audience he feels for Republicans who had a field of 17 candidates and are now left with a choice between “Mussolini and Joe McCarthy.” The comedian went on to point out the subtle differences between the two but said in the end better to choose Ted than dead.
“There are actual job requirements. It’s not like Mardi Gras parade king. Do I think President Trump would actually disappear people? No, but I can’t rule it out. With him, I can’t rule anything out. What does he do on day one, send Megyn Kelly to Guantanamo Bay? Or me? He’s already sued me. The president signs off on a kill list every day, and sends out the drones, and I like going outside. So, yes, Ted Cruz will be our worst president, but Donald Trump, might well be our last. Which is why I say better Ted than dead.”
Interesting enough, Maher has had a change of heart. Back in January he said, “Ted Cruz is scarier than Donald Trump,” noting Trump says somethings a liberal can love.

I am a proud member of #NEVERBILLMAHER
Yup, Bill Maher is my go-to guy for political analysis and electoral advice.
This is effectively an endorsement of Donald Trump.
Why am I having such a hard time believing he is going to cast a vote for any Republican in November?
I agree with Bill Maher. A vote for Trump in the primaries is a vote for a Democratic Senate, House and Supreme Court.
Even a blind nut can stumble across a squirrel every now and then.
Yep. Maher is also very strong on the war against terror, and a vocal spokesman for calling out the problems within Islam.
Other than that, he’s kind of a cretin. But he’s right about Trump.
Maher for picking Republican candidates. What an idea!
Maher will talk big, but I trust when the time comes, he’ll pull the lever for suicide. Lefties aren’t for turning.
Agree with Mike LaRoche above. If something is a nightmare to Bill Maher it can’t be all bad.
Anything Maher says is a no-brainer.
Maher – eh. Now the opinions of the characters on Game of Thrones on the current presidential race would be interesting.
I thought the presidential race was the latest season of Game of Thrones.
Quite the ringing endorsement.
This is a bit like an endorsement from the New York Times. No GOP candidate in his right mind would want it, because they’re going to pick the weakest candidate and hope their endorsement ultimately helps defeat the GOP nominee.
A Bill Maher semi-endorsement, like the gift of herpes no one in their right mind would want it. A public statement by Cruz disavowing it might be a good idea.
Off topic, but for years this fellow has been cast as Comedian Bill Maher. Personally, I have never laughed, not once at anything he’s said. Cynic Bill Maher works for me.
Maher is not the first to notice the resemblance between Cruz and McCarthy.
Funny until Trump showed his inner lunatic, I thought he was better than Cruz as well.
But he’s not, there is something deeply disturbing about his mental health. He is unstable. Maybe Dementia? Maybe just a big spoiled brat who has never dealt with people saying “no”. I don’t know what it is, but it is something.
Donald Trump is not mentally healthy. Many of us feel it on a gut level. It is far too dangerous to put power into the hands of someone who is simply not all there.
Real normal people don’t do the odd gratuitously vulgar and mean things he does, and never ever, back off. That is not healthy behavior.
We must do all in our power to keep him out of the Whitehouse. And if he makes it hide out until he gets impeached.
Thank heavens for that impeachment option.
Darn, Ted is/was my man. But if Bill M see value in him I will now have to reconsider. It is sort of like the Devil taking an interest. There has to be something there.
I caught this too. Maybe I am sensitive to it since I lived through my father’s and grandfather’s early onset dementia. The thing is there is a point, especially on intelligent people when they start to lose it, but nobody has caught onto it yet. They are still the very bright people you know and love and can command a lot of facts so when you are talking to them and listening to them what they are saying sort of makes a sort of sense, in some cases a lot of sense. It hangs together. It is only when you step away and look at it again you end up scratching your head. You know something is not right but you have a hard time putting a finger on it. What they say sounds right but the conclusions do not match up. It is sort of like talking to a liberal. I get some of that from Trump. Trump is good at point out issues and saying something needs to be done but his solutions just do not fit the issues he is describing.
Big irrelevant deal. Blind squirrels and acorns–and Cruz over Trump is an acorn the size of Mt. Rushmore.
Really? How?
ohh he is? I need to look into his past comments on terror. Thanks!
Why? Did you see what he said? He can’t rule out Trump making people disappear and I can’t see why he’s wrong on this.
Perhaps you are overlooking who Bill Maher is, I find that unwise. He is not someone anyone in their right mind would wish to be associated with. His pseudo-endorsement is poison.
