You're Wrong About Everything
If you, fellow Ricochet reader, do not support same sex marriage, or as the Huffington Post calls it, "anti- gay" or against "gay rights," you're about to face the deepest argument yet.
Hat tip Huffington Post (skip to 20 seconds):
Wow! What a great debate. I'm sure the guy arguing with Rove really worked hard planning out what he was going to say. And wait- there's more.
OK, now in all seriousness, I don't care what you think about DADT or SSM (yay initialisms), this is just a little sad. Sure it's harmless to throw glitter at someone, but if you're so confident in your position, how hard is it to argue?

There are a few of these videos out there surrounding GOP members, like Newt, Bachmann, and Pawlenty, and most happen to take place here in the Twin Cities for whatever reason.
I remember James making a passing comment about these in a podcast over the summer. I don't remember his exact phrasing, but he essentially pointed out the hypocrisy of these activists, who claim to be combating intolerance, but doing so by being equally intolerant.

I'm sure it's justified in their minds. I remember reading a YouTube comment that essentially said, "a bigot like that doesn't deserve a debate." Uh, I don't like that reasoning.

Re: You're Wrong About Everything
As a gay man, I favor SSM but these tactics do nothing good for the cause. While living in California, I voted against Prop. 8. Before election day, the "No on 8" campaign ran a TV ad showing Mormons barging in to a lesbian couple's to take their wedding rings. The ad was offensive and I darn near voted yes on 8 just for spite. It was bad enough that they equated legitimate opposition with "hate". It bothers me greatly that these people can get so close. I can't stand Karl Rove but he surely has the right to conduct his affairs without being assaulted. Sparkle man needs prison time.
Re: You're Wrong About Everything
I'm not a Karl Rove fan either. But there are, as you say, ways to disagree with someone without throwing confetti at someone.

I wasn't living California at the time, but I've heard it was a nasty media fight. I certainly agree on the tactics; there's too much moralism when it comes to this sort of thing. People need to discuss and resolve their differences, not demand blind adherence to a lefty set of multicultural "values" that glorifies the extreme while punishing people who think for themselves.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I mind this happening to Karl Rove. I don't hate the man, precisely; like many of the Bush people, he'll probably end up in the pro-gay pro-life faction of the Republican party. But he did use homophobia to re-elect Bush (a classic "turn out the base" strategy) in 2004. I don't know. He's a very cold-blooded individual when it comes to politics.
As a strategy, I don't think this is effective. It won't influence public opinion, and it won't affect the political elite; in that respect, protests outside his house like the ones John Yoo puts up with would be far more effective (though I don't like protests either).
