Flat Hat Prints Silly Arguments from Silly OWS Supporter
The WM Flat Hat, our equivalent of the WaPo/NYT, recently printed one of the most unintentionally hilarious endorsements of OWS I have seen. As support for OWS goes, it is fairly unremarkable, but the quote that makes this the gem that it is follows:
A common complaint leveled at the movement has been aimed at its lack of focus and clarity of purpose. This is true, but I must ask: Who cares? It’s counter to the movement to delve into any specifics, especially with regard to the adoption of a formal agenda. What’s been so impressive about the protests so far is their resistance to the very idea of policy positions. If they were to come out with a pet cause, they’d be like any other interest group, with boundaries and an ideological “line” to toe.
Let's translate this one into normalpeoplespeak, shall we? OWS shouldn't have actual plans because an actual plan would require them to stand for something. Having actual plans opens them up to being criticized, which is far too easy as it is anyway, and expose them for the frauds they are. I think it should be a rule of thumb at this point that any group going out of its way to tell you it is non-ideological is probably more ideological than most others.
Actually, the heck with it. I'm not going to bother to decode any meaning from this, because I'm not even sure that there is any. This basically admits that OWS has no actual solutions, and argues that this is a good thing. How this is supposed to add up to a convincing argument is simply beyond me, although this sort of thing is hardly surprising.

Re: Flat Hat Prints Silly Arguments from Silly OWS Supporter
I don't understand why people who have no solutions, no plan, and don't even agree on what "winning" would look like are treated like serious adults who have something of value to add to the discussion.
If you don't have a solution you don't have the right to complain.
