The Voice of Reason on Gun Control

Congresswoman Diana DeGette from Colorado has been one of the leading voices for new gun control regulations on Capitol Hill in the wake of the Newtown shooting.

In fact, she’s actually the sponsor of a piece of legislation that would ban high-capacity magazines, which is one of her pet causes. With that level of dedication, you’d think she’d know her stuff. Well … from The Spot blog at the Denver Post:

Tuesday at a Denver Post forum on the gun control debate, the senior congresswoman from Denver appeared to not understand how guns work.

Asked how a ban on magazines holding more than 15 rounds would be effective in reducing gun violence, DeGette said:

“I will tell you these are ammunition, they’re bullets, so the people who have those now they’re going to shoot them, so if you ban them in the future, the number of these high capacity magazines is going to decrease dramatically over time because the bullets will have been shot and there won’t be any more available.”

What she didn’t appear to understand is that a magazine can be reloaded with more bullets.

OK, I give up. Let’s just start picking these people via lottery.

That’s how we have done it for years here in Colorado.  Did you never hear of Patsy Schroeder?

  2. Sisyphus

The first 535 names in the Topeka phone directory?

These are the sorts of buffoons the moron media rushes to protect. As long as you share their inane, provincial bigotries, no prob, just take another hit of this Guadalope Gold, tee hee.

The plus on the Republican side is that anyone 1/10th as utterly buffoonish as this weak minded cow from the too stupid to live caucus would have been hooted out as an idiot long ago.

I have a phone book. We can just pick some random people.

Seriously if you do not understand guns, why would you agree to appear at a forum on guns and gun control. If you have no idea on your subject matter, then of course you will say stupid things.

Maybe she knows something we don’t know? Why does she thing there won’t be any more bullets? Because HHS has bought them all?

Of course, it’s not what you know, it’s what you know that ain’t so.

Unknown knowns if I may borrow a quadrant from Rumsfeld’s state table.

    No. Rechargeable batteries. Duh!

I liked it when Dana Loesch explained to Piers Morgan that her son’s BB gun looks like an Army auto-fire weapon, therefore it, under the assault weapons ban law criteria, qualifies as a military weapon.

Or we could look backwards: imagine DeGette sharing a stage with Tipper Gore explaining the utility of banning multi-disc changers.

We don’t even need guns anymore to fight, especially since once the cartridges are gone they’re useless.  In fact, I think I could beat North Korea alone with an MRI magnet.

I love the way the Commie’s dispense medals.  Must be cheaper to stamp some tin then too actually feed your people.

I was hoping you would say refillable pie plates……..the world need more pie.

She might be on to something though.  If we could get single use Congressman imagine how much better our life would be……..”They just keep saying stupid things and pretty soon the will all be depleted because the hot air that powers them will be all used up.”

I watched the video of the congresswoman making this incredibly misinformed statement. My faith in the good sense of the American people is always shaken when I behold the seemingly endless parade of politicians of mediocre intellect that are voted into office to make our decisions for us.

I recently read David Stockman’s latest philippic regarding the hopeless state of our union — agreed with some points, disagreed with others. But what I admit intrigued me most was his idea that all politicians should be limited to a single six-year term, with public financing of campaigns, a short 8-week campaign season, a repeal of the Citizens United decision and a lifetime ban on lobbying.

If we could limit these bozos to a single term then send them off to do something else with their time, I might even go in for public financed campaigns. Don’t think I’d go for the Citizens United repeal.

If you really wish to be dispirited by our elected officials listen to the ramblings of the “Honorable Ms Sheila Lee Jackson” from Texas.

Leaving aside the stupidity of the statement, that must be one of the most mangled sentences in the history of the English language.  I had to read it several times to make sure I was understanding it correctly.

Also check her facebook page.  There are a bazillion (yes, that many) people sending her negative comments, and most of them wouldn’t get past our own CofC.

I lived in Colorado in the nineties when De Gette emerged on the scene (thankfully, not in my district).  She seemed like a clueless ditz then, and doesn’t appear to have improved.

  19. Misthiocracy

Y’all joke, but is it really such a ludicrous idea to populate the House of Representatives by putting the Social Security number of every American into a big computer and selecting 435 people at random every four years?

You’d end up with a near-perfect statistical representation of the nation, and eliminate careerists.

Repeal the 17th Amendment while you’re at it…

Don’t give up.  People giving up is the problem.

Look, this rocket surgeon* didn’t elect herself.  She’s an expert at navigating the political system.  Must be to have gotten where she is.  But that is all she is… an expert at navigating the political system.

We, the people, have got to pay attention and stop sending these one trick ponies to government.
