“The Moment When the Rise of the Oceans Began to Slow”

Well, it looks like Obama has made good on at least one campaign promise.  Remember this?

Now get a load of this update from NASA’s Sea Level Sentinels:

For the past 18 years, the U.S./French Jason-1, Jason-2 and Topex/Poseidon spacecraft have been monitoring the gradual rise of the world’s ocean in response to global warming.

While the rise of the global ocean has been remarkably steady for most of this time, every once in a while, sea level rise hits a speed bump. This past year, it’s been more like a pothole: between last summer and this one, global sea level actually fell by about a quarter of an inch, or half a centimeter.

Not having much else to campaign on (last I heard, Obama’s team was devising a strategy that would emphasize his success with the auto bailouts!), I advise the President to make falling sea levels the central plank of his reelection platform.  I can hear the makings of an advertisement already:

Barack Obama is a promise keeper.  In just one term, he stewarded a drop in the global sea level and oversaw the healing of the planet.  Reelect Obama in 2012.  The earth depends on it.

Could this perhaps be a side effect of massive unemployment? After all, if we could simply get rid of life, the earth would be cooler.

  2. The Great Adventure!

Hey – given how many people voted for him last time when he spouted this type of claptrap, it just might work.  Or at least he might think it’ll work.

Perhaps The War on Obesity is being won at last. The oceans are not receding, the land masses are rising due to relief from overweight populations.

Ohhh, my head hurts now with all this logic stuff…  Shhh, Nobody tell Al Gore….

When substance, style, ideology, and results all fail to materialize in to positive experience then it is time to rely on mysticism.   All positive developments are from Obama and anything negative is from those meddling conservatives.

And he was Johnny on the spot (Canute on the spot?) with his swift response to neo-Katrina, holding the storm surge in New York City to three feet.  Which is roughly a yard.

I suspect we may have elected one of the X-Men.

I’m sure their are enough “intellectuals” on the left to explain to all the rest of us how Obama did cause the oceans to recede.  And for the average Obama voter this is proof that he is the messiah. Verily, I say unto thee “We are the Ones we have waited for” amen.

This is probably related to the speed bump in global temperatures, which unexpectedly fell after 1998, before even the bushitler came to power, let alone the walker-on-receding-waters.

It may come as a shock to “liberal” “scientists”, who see themselves as the center of the Universe, more powerful than the Sun, but we humans are totally insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

But I’m glad our tax money is going towards such worthwhile projects with the French.

Kind of hard to argue with.  I suspect that The One also caused the sun to calm down, which led to the cloud formations that the CERN study found, as described in Nature last week.

There is the question of causation.  Just because you promised something would happen and it happened doesn’t mean you caused it to happen.
