    It turns out that salinity level in the oceans has dropped precipitously. This lead to extinction or near-extinction of hundreds of species. Man-made de-salinization of our oceans demands immediate action. UN-assembled conference of marine scientists came to a consensus that without Marsh Plan to rescue the environment cute dolphins will wash ashore in as little as 10-15 years.

    ok, if it wasn’t obvious – it was sarcasm. I thought it was obvious. And all of that was written by me. If it reads like it was written by somebody outside The Onion – I am deeply flattered!

    The serious point is that environmentalists will always find some global impending disaster that requires central organizing principle for civilization. With the era of climate change (first global cooling, then global warming) pretty much over, I thought that desalinization could be the next big thing!
