Liberty-Minded Woman Vs. U.S. Senator

I don’t really know what U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is talking about when he refers to a “100 weapon” and “100 magazine artifact” but I do love how Gayle Trotter, an attorney and an actual elected official in Washington, D.C. (!), explains how his gun-grabbing attempt is sexist and particularly harmful for young mothers.

i love how she just threw abortion rights language in his face.

  2. Mark Wilson

This hypocrite wants to ban the wimpy 100 weapon while leaving millions of the much more powerful 870′s out in the streets.

Oh wow. Even better than that clip is Dave Kopel’s amazing testimony. It so thoroughly rebuts Feinstein that it’s almost breathtaking. Seriously. Read this now (pdf).

  5. Concretevol

This is a trait of politicians in general and liberals in particular.  They may have little or no knowledge on what they seek to regulate but still feel like they know more than you.

  6. Pilli

Sen. Whitehouse was cut off at the end of this clip as he was beginning to talk about the “young man who fired 13, 14, …”

Is it safe to assume he was talking about the shooter at Sandy Hook?  If so, has it been definitively stated exactly what weapons the man actually used.  I have heard everything from multiple handguns to an AK-47.

This is pertinent because Sen. Whitehouse and his ilk want to ban semi-automatic rifles in particular.  If the Sandy Hook shooter used handguns, he is NOT a good example of why semi-automatic rifles need to be banned.

Meanwhile, inside the esteemed colleague’s head:

“Oh why must you right-wing nut jobs obsess over all those pesky details! I mean you know what I mean, right! I hate having to think so hard at these stupid hearings. Why do we have to have hearings anyway? We all know what the right thing to do is, I mean is the right thing to do, I mean… oh bother, is it lunchtime yet?”

  8. Vance Richards

I say we ban the “100 weapon” but keep guns legal.

After watching the video, I am forced to conclude that U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse doesn’t know what U.S. Senator  Sheldon Whitehouse is talking about.

Let’s cap firearm magazines at 100,000 rounds and seize the income and assets of every Senator to pay a day’s worth of service on the debt.

  11. Chris Campion

Amazingly, Senators will now spend their time parsing out exactly how many rounds shall be deemed adequate for self-defense, for anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Thank you for your fine work, Senator.  I sincerely hope you fall down a flight of stairs on the way home tonight, because that’s the greatest service you can perform for your country, given your statements today.

I salute your courage in disarming women trying to defend themselves.  How’s that war on women going now, chief?

The thought that I can’t shake about this administration: they’re going to get us all killed.

Star Trek Voyager mavens will recognize the “100 weapon” as the precursor to the “Photonic Cannon.”

I don’t find it sexist to ban high magazine weapons. The next step for this idiot is to ban all handguns by the way.

That’s good testimony, but he botched a great opportunity for a good analogy.

The gun prohibition lobbies, though, oppose firearms accuracy. On the January 16, 2013,  Josh Horwitz said that grips should be banned because they prevent “muzzle rise” and thereby allow the shooter to stay on target.

Well, yes, a grip helps stabilize the gun so that a second shot (whether at a deer or a violent attacker) will go where the first shot went. Horowitz was essentially saying that guns which are easy to fire accurately should be banned.

This is backwards. It is like claiming that history books which are especially accurate should be banned, while less-accurate books could still be allowed.”

No, it’s like claiming that doctors’ scalpels should be dulled because sharp scalpels are more dangerous.

Let’s humor these ignorant Liberal Senators for a moment.  How many rounds are sufficient?  What if in this case the woman protecting herself and her child had poor aim and her first few shots missed the attacker? A typical Remington 870 would contain 3 or 4 shells for example.  That does not leave much room for error does it?  What if there are multiple attackers?  Clearly there are many plausible scenarios where a capacity greater than 10 rounds would be necessary to stop the attackers.  I am glad there are women like the witness who will testify to the truth and educate these fools.

Thanks for the link on the Dave Kopel testimony.  Fantastic.; I’ve already forwarded it on.

Jeff, history does not give the derringer the lauding it deserves. Many a lady pulled one of those bad boys out in desperate times. The very idea that a gal might have one was a game changer. Devereaux, nice Northfield reference.

The invention of the handgun was one of the greatest steps toward the equality for women.

Isn’t it odd that the people who define themselves as “liberal” are always the ones to go on crusades to ban things they don’t like, but that others find useful. It’s the puritan streak that’s always run through American life and progressivism, the idea that somewhere someone is living as they see fit. Always in the name of “common sense,” whatever that is.

Of course they will ban handguns, if they can get away with it. Semi-automatic rifles are the camel’s nose in the tent. It’s just “common sense” after all.
