Law Talk With Epstein and Yoo #21: The Marrying Men

With the Prop. 8 decision being handed down today, we knew we had to go to our in house legal superstars for instant analysis. They don’t disappoint and we predict you will be surprised by their views on the decision. In addition, the professors opine on the Yale-Rhodes scholar case, intellectual property and copyright, law students who sue their law school, and wind up with Justice Ginsburg’s curious view of the U.S. Constitution.

It’s the law: everyone can listen in below, but if you want to listen to Epstein,Yoo, and Senik on your phone or tablet, subscribe to the show in iTunes (click there for the direct link), or listen in on Stitcher, you must be a Ricochet member. Join today!

Hey thanks, EJ. And our deepest apologies, professors. Please don’t sue us.

You have topped yourself again, EJ Hill-arious!

  2. Daniel Sattelberger

    Wait, where’s Episode 20?

  3. Troy Senik, Ed.

Exactly as I predicted! You’re clearly a true “Law Talk” fan. It’s explained in the intro.

That is a brilliant job by EJ. Who knew Richard could pull off blonde?

Troy! You missed a perfect opportunity to make a Beatles reference a minute before you did make one.

Let It Be is generally considered The Beatles’ last album, as it of course was the final album released. But a majority of Let It Be was recorded before Abbey Road was recorded.

So when it comes to placing them in chronological order, some fans say that Let It Be should actually be the penultimate album.

  6. Troy Senik, Ed.

The thought actually crossed my mind on the spur of the moment, but I didn’t want anyone to get the impression that this was our last show. This fab four (I’m including Yeti, who’s the brains behind the operation) haven’t encountered their Yoko yet. Though you could make the argument that we’ve already gotten into our psychedelic phase …

What would Mr. Epstein think of a use-or-lose-it clause in the copyright laws? I don’t mind artists making their money or even corporations making theirs… but why should there be vast amounts of artistic material sitting in vaults, much of it preserved or restored by taxpayer money but whose copyrights are held in perpetuity by the donors? Why should the taxpayer preserve material that it will never have access to? Or worse yet, why should tax dollars restore material that benefits the commercial activities of a private company?

That graphic is genius. I’d buy it as a poster if I could.

Finally sitting down to listen to this and yeah, we need to call shenanigans on Senik. Technically Han didn’t shoot first because Greedo never fired a shot until Lucas revised history. Not that I’ve spent a lot of time analyzing this like the Zapruder film or anything.

Embarrassing pop culture whiffs aside, this remains the highest quality podcast series in the known galaxy.

You know, about 30 minutes later in the podcast, I had the nagging feeling that I had screwed that up. So much for sneaking one past the goalie … if y’all don’t mind a sports metaphor even further diminishing my nerd credentials.

Don’t worry. We’ll fix it when we remaster this episode in 30 years.

Troy we forgive you…Only because as Genferei says this is a great podcast. I should note, being overly knowledgeable about any subject is actually nerdy. It is just that some Nerds are more accepted than others. Sports is the best example. How is it not nerdy to know all the statistics of you favorite baseball team?
