When FOX News came onto the scene, some conservatives I know grimaced at their “fair and balanced” mantra. The Left gives us no such quarter, they said. What the Right needs is a counter-force, not a referee, they said.

Based on Continetti’s description, this is what those folks have been waiting for… only it’s not on TV.

This is terrific though I think they should reconsider the font. It reads clearly enough but (perhaps for this reason) utilizes a common advertising font. I can’t compete with Lileks’ font analysis but I think in some subtle way, while it might make the stories more readable, it detracts from their credibility. I think they should use a mainstream media font to underscore their point even more.

I see the Washington Free Beacon‘s preferred shortened form is WFB. Not, I imagine, a coincidence.

Hmmm. Today they seem to be having problems with ligatures. I’m guessing that whatever typeface that is doesn’t handle them very well. Note the number of missing “fi” or “ffi” combinations.

I love the typeface they’re using for the headlines. I think it’s Hackensack, and to me it’s a callback to early 20th-Century newspaper headlines.
